Overview
The Library Director is responsible for the effective leadership of the library by developing a shared vision to provide needed materials, relevant services, and up-to-date information to the community we serve. The Library Director works with the Board of Trustees, staff, and community to develop library services that support lifelong learning and enhance the quality of life for Mitchell residents.
Salary
This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $50,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
The library director will:
- Lead an organization that informs, enriches, and empowers the community.
- Understand and implement budgeting, finance, and cash management as it applies to public libraries and governmental units in Indiana.
- Lead the organization with honesty and integrity.
- Prepare reports required by the Library Board, local and state agencies, and other governmental entities.
- Implement a shared vision of exceptional library service.
- Communicate and learn from individuals and groups in the community.
- Participate in community organizations and events.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
- Know and understand emerging trends in libraries.
- Attend professional and community meetings, planning, and training sessions as appropriate.
- Oversee the library’s compliance with all relevant standards/requirements for public libraries in Indiana.
- Embrace and motivate others to embrace meaningful change to assure the library is responsive to changing community needs.
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff.
- Effectively develop staff morale.
Delegate responsibilities to staff as appropriate to implement strategic plan. Perform other job duties as necessary.
- Maintain valid Indiana driver’s license and licensed vehicle.
Qualifications, Education, & Experience
- Master’s degree in Library Science from ALA-accredited institution
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain LC2 certification from the Indiana State Library
- Participation in state and regional library associations
- Experience working with nonprofit boards
