Radar Signals, Systems and Processing Analyst-Technical Staff

MIT Lincoln Laboratory
Lexington, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 6/4/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/3/2026
As a member of the Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on high-performance sensor systems as part of a team with varied technical backgrounds. We prototype radar and imaging sensors for wide-area surveillance, and work to mature algorithms to detect small objects in challenging environments. Projects typically involve a mix of hardware and software development, as well as algorithm design. Teams work together to understand foundational physical principles, design and build one-of-a-kind sensor systems, architect and execute flight test data collections, develop and integrate novel processing techniques, and explore advanced countermeasures that degrade sensor performance. Staff projects typically partner across the Department of Defense to transition work onto platforms that operate around the globe, and perform impactful and relevant missions.

Position Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a talented researcher to join our dynamic team as a radar systems analyst with a focus in signal processing and data analysis. As a member of the Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on world-class sensor systems as part of a team with a variety of technical backgrounds. We model and analyze the performance of new technologies, prototype radio frequency and complimentary sensors, design and execute data collections, and develop algorithms to detect, track, and image challenging targets within complex environments. Our models and algorithms benefit from access to a one-of-a-kind interactive supercomputer. Our prototypes and data collections are enabled by highly adaptable test infrastructure including two airborne radar testbeds—turboprop aircraft equipped with an advanced radars, visible and infrared imaging system, communications systems, and real-time data processors—and modern jammers.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a PhD (or MS with 5-10 years of relevant experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field who work well within a team environment. Our work involves a mix of new concept and algorithm development, radar and electronic warfare systems modeling, experiment design, and data-driven analysis. As such, we expect candidates to have significant experience in digital signal processing or expertise in the underlying mathematics and computational techniques and interest in applying those skills to active and passive sensing systems, RF communications, and electronic warfare systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret data sets to extract meaningful insights and assess system behavior
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the design, simulation, and implementation of signal processing algorithms in areas such as target detection and identification, target tracking, and interference mitigation
  • Utilize and develop tools in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages for analysis, data processing, and physics-based model and simulation
  • Design and execute experiments involving ground-and-airborne sensors
  • Communicate technical results to a wide variety of audiences via reports and presentations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. In lieu of a Ph.D., we will consider applicants with a Master’s degree with 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Effective technical communication skills, including ability to convey research goals, processes, accomplishments, and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or a related language
  • Willingness to occasionally travel in support of field tests, data collection campaigns, and meetings

Join us in an intellectually stimulating environment where you'll have the opportunity to apply your expertise to the latest and most difficult real-world challenges as part of a highly skilled, diverse team of scientists and engineers.
