Job Description

Audio-Visual Project Technician

A highly skilled technician with all the qualifications of a Senior Technician who, in addition, demonstrates ingenuity in design, construction, operation or maintenance of highly technical and complicated apparatus. An exceptionally high degree of responsibility and ingenuity is expected of employees in this classification. Must have one or more of the following aptitudes: (a) Flair for improving scientific devices (b) Unusual ingenuity at trouble shooting (c) Demonstrated ability at field engineering or test engineering (d) Ability to to do effective and important laboratory instructional work with students Requirements: Graduation from a two year day technical school or its equivalent, and a minimum of ten years of applicable experience are required. A sound, basic knowledge of his/her particular field is important for this classification.

Position Description

  • A highly skilled A/V technician who is able to work independently and proactively in a fast paced, high pressure, and high profile environment
  • Must be team oriented, flexible, and have excellent customer skills
  • The individual understands and is able to perform all the functions of a Technician A (A/V) Lincoln Laboratory. In addition, an exceptionally high degree of ingenuity and responsibility is expected of employees in this classification
  • Must perform work that demonstrates the ability to accomplish unusually complex or difficult set-ups, troubleshoot Audio and Video equipment as well as Video Conferencing equipment, give highly technical advice to engineers, researchers, or other responsible parties. Demonstrate an unusual level of ingenuity in solving problems
  • Must assume an exceptionally high degree of responsibility
  • Must interact with customers and peers when complex situations arise
  • Trouble shooting and maintaining existing A/V systems - Understanding the operation and repair of a wide variety of Laboratory-related audio-visual equipment and systems
  • Performing routine preventive maintenance on A/V systems and equipment (replace bulbs, clean filters & lenses, make minor adjustments, etc.)
  • Keen ability to diagnose problems with AV systems and make equipment substitutions to provide immediate resolution of system failures
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Crestron control systems.
  • Setup and installation of A/V system -Reading and utilizing schematics and following written directions. Providing install of A/V components, including but not limited to the following: Televisions, VCRs, CD/DVD players/recorders, TV cameras, closed circuit TV system components/distribution amplifiers/wiring, projectors, video teleconferencing equipment, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of portable A/V systems. Knowledge of emerging A/V technologies. Operate AV systems and record presentations -Running and/or videotaping presentations from speakers’ cues. Loading, testing, troubleshooting, organizing and managing presentations on classified and unclassified computers, sometimes simultaneously
  • Understanding and performing various aspects of audio/video capturing and production as well as related A/V tasks including lighting and audio recording
  • Possess the ability to reconfigure AV systems to accommodate required equipment and/or media format modifications
  • Possessing exceptional ability in selecting and operating video equipment to record, process and deliver high-quality video in standard formats
  • Understanding of audio gain structure, equalization and microphone technology including wireless systems
  • Possessing experience real-time video camera and source switching. Understanding and ability to use patch bays to route signals
  • Maintaining knowledge of current state-of-the-art technologies in areas relevant to Meeting Technology, including presentation systems, video teleconferencing and A/V equipment Recording and tracking incidents and requests in Service Desk Ticketing system. Communicating effectively with supervisor, associate employees, contractors, vendors and Laboratory employees


Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent preferred, and a minimum of ten years of applicable hands-on experience are required
  • A sound, basic knowledge of his/her particular field is important for this classification
  • Strong interest in learning new skills, timely, methodical and accurate work habits, and very good written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Due to the nature of work at the lab, employees must be eligible for and able to maintain up to a TS-SCI with Full Scope Poly based on lab needs and customer requirements
  • Intermediate skill on Windows and Mac operating systems; Proficiency in interfacing computers with various displays; Good understanding of Microsoft Office particularly PowerPoint presentation software; Proficiency in file transfer and interfacing computers with external hard drives and peripherals; Understanding of TCP/IP and FTP
