Work in the center involves advising coordination, degree tracking support, and collaboration with academic units.

Job Description

• Guide students in developing and accomplishing educational plans
• Advise students about scholastic programs and academic progress
• Provide information to students regarding university resources to enhance academic success and problem-solving
• Coordinate (e.g., compile, verify, prepare) materials, information, programs, etc. as assigned
• Advise/provide support to current and prospective students in various subject areas
• Perform standard assignments and responsibilities and make recommendations for improvement/efficiency, resourcing, etc., as necessary
• Assist in the development and implementation of programs/projects according to plan and/or with guidance
• Exchange straightforward information, ask questions, and check for understanding
• Develop working relationships with functional teams
• Advise freshmen/transfer students on a variety of academic issues such as course planning and selection, degree programs selection, scholastic probations, scholastic deficiency and all college/department policies and procedures as necessary. Initiate and maintain contact with students regarding academic progress
• Maintain/update electronic student advising files
• Assist students with non-academic problem solving, provide general campus information, and refer students to appropriate campus resources (Financial Aid, Counseling Services, International Affairs, Student Health Services, and Career Opportunities and Employer Relations)
• Assist faculty by providing information regarding college policies and academic rules. Assist with department program assessment data analysis and reports
• Plan and coordinate programs to orient new students to all aspects of campus life. Conduct individual and/or group advising sessions with students
• Compose written documents (references, verification letters, catalog updates, responses to student inquiries, etc.) as needed. Collect and analyze data relative to advising and student academic progress
• Critical to this position will be developing, maintaining, and updating tools and strategies to streamline the advising process including web-based instruments (i.e. S&Tconnect, Joe’SS, and Schedule Planner) and curriculum advising flowsheets.
• Assist with Advising and Registrations days
• Assist with recruiting events and activities, student orientations, and other such events and functions and prepare related handouts and visual presentations
• Assist in other duties as assigned by the department director
  
  

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4:30PM

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree
• 3 years in higher education, academic office, advising, student development, or closely related experience
• Science/engineering background or experience advising science/engineering undergraduate students
  
  

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $45,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
