Field Technician - Solar

Position Summary

The Field Technician performs technical field work in support of solar farm facilities, generating stations, and instrument technician operations. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, testing, and system support for electrical, mechanical, and control equipment. The position requires frequent travel, occasional overnight stays, and periodic overtime or emergency response work.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair solar farm facilities, including inverters, transformers, panels, DC systems, and power distribution components.
• Support maintenance and troubleshooting of generating stations, with emphasis on combustion turbines, diesel engines, and related equipment.
• Perform testing, functional checks, and in-service monitoring of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
• Maintain on-site communications equipment, including SCADA servers, DAS components, modems, routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Read and interpret electrical, instrumentation, control, wiring, and manufacturer drawings and manuals.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, supervisors, and utility personnel to complete repairs and projects.
• Travel regularly to member cities and job sites, including occasional overnight stays.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience with PV systems or related power generation equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read wiring schematics and working knowledge of the National Electric Code.
• Understanding of basic electrical power transmission and distribution systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Ability to read construction documents, manufacturer specifications, and technical manuals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial power plant operations.
• Experience troubleshooting or maintaining control systems.
• Familiarity with control devices, display systems, and related technical equipment.
