Operations Consultant – Missouri Coroners and Medical Examiners Association (MCMEA)
Location: Missouri (Remote and In-Person Work Flexibility Available – Travel and overnights stays will be required)

About MCMEA:
The Missouri Coroners and Medical Examiners Association (MCMEA) is a professional 501(c)(6) non-profit organization comprised whose members are elected coroners, medical examiners and appointed deputy coroners from across the state of Missouri. The MCMEA is dedicated to supporting the public health and safety of Missouri residents by promoting the highest standards of death investigation, forensic science, and the role of coroners and medical examiners in the state. MCMEA provides education, advocacy, and a forum for collaboration among professionals in the field, and we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Consultant to help lead our organization and advance its mission.
Position Overview:
The Operations Consultant will be responsible for overseeing all operations of the MCMEA, including strategic planning, membership development, advocacy, communications, and financial management. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the organization, work with the Board of Directors, and ensure the continued success of the association. The Operations Consultant will report directly to the Board of Directors and be expected to build strong relationships with members, state agencies, and other organizations in the public health and forensic communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Lead the day-to-day operations of the MCMEA, ensuring that all activities align with the association’s mission, values, and goals.
- Provide MCMEA leadership team with assistance in fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Strategic Planning & Advocacy: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set long-term strategic goals and objectives. Advocate for policies and legislation that benefit coroners and medical examiners in Missouri.
- Communicate with the Board of Directors to establish organizational goals, priorities, and performance metrics.
- Conference Planning & Coordination: Plan and oversee two major conferences each year:
- Biannual MCMEA Conference: Organize and manage the biannual statewide conference that provides training, networking, and educational opportunities for coroners and medical examiners across Missouri.
- Newly Elected Coroner Conference: In addition to the Biannual conference the Operations Consultant will coordinate a special conference every election cycle for newly elected coroners to prepare them for their responsibilities and ensure they have the tools and resources they need to succeed in their roles.
- Member Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective members, ensuring that they receive valuable services, resources, and opportunities for professional development.
- Financial Management: Oversee the association’s budget, including developing financial strategies, fundraising, and managing financial reports.
- Staff Leadership & Development: Supervise and mentor MCMEA staff, ensuring the team is motivated, well-trained, and aligned with organizational goals.
- External Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson for the association, representing MCMEA at conferences, meetings, and with external partners such as government agencies, other associations, and the media.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is required (Masters degree is preferred); accounting, business administration, public administration, anthropology, economics, nonprofit management or other related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field, preferably in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in managing or working with state contracts, including compliance with procurement and reporting requirements.
- Must be a Missouri resident and have a valid driver’s license/proof of insurance.
- Strong knowledge of association management, advocacy, and membership development.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Proven ability to develop and manage budgets, financial reports, and fundraising efforts.
- Experience working with boards of directors and in a leadership capacity.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- A passion for supporting the public in regard to death care as well as to the coroner/medical examiner community in Missouri.
Required Position Restrictions (Conflict of Interest Clause):
Due to conflict-of-interest concerns and as directed by the MCMEA Executive Board:
Applicants may NOT be:
· An elected coroner
· A deputy coroner
· An assistant deputy coroner
· OR any person employed by a coroner’s office or county government in a medicolegal capacity.
Compensation:
· Salary: Commensurate with experience (as approved by the Executive Board).

- Performance bonuses may be awarded by the Board to recognize outstanding contributions.
