Academic Support:
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify students in need of academic support.
- Provide academic counseling and advising to nursing students to help them set and achieve academic goals.
- Assist students in developing study skills, time management, and test-taking strategies.
- Monitor referrals for progress and provide intervention as necessary to address challenges.
Wellness Promotion:
- Develop and implement wellness programs that address the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of undergraduate nursing students.
- Offer resources and workshops on stress management, self-care, resiliency, and work-life balance.
- Provide student connections to campus resources.
- Organize activities that promote a sense of community and belonging.
Retention Initiatives:
- Identify factors that may contribute to student attrition and work to develop strategies for improving retention among identified, at-risk undergraduate nursing students.
- Connect students with appropriate counseling services, healthcare resources, or community support systems when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality while adhering to institutional policies and regulations.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Keep detailed records of student interactions and interventions.
- Prepare reports on student success and wellness initiatives, including outcomes and recommendations.
- Use data to assess program effectiveness and make continuous improvements.
- Participates in research with guidance and as times permits.
Other:
- Represents the Department of Nursing when opportunity arises or as assigned.
- Serves on committees, when assigned.
- Participates in community and professional organizations.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned by the department chair or dean.
- Master’s degree
- Appropriate license for degree (if applicable)
- At least one year experience in social work, counseling, case management, student advising, retention, nursing, or applicable field.
- Meets current clinical agency requirements (such as criminal background check, drug screen, immunizations, etc.).
- Knowledge of nursing education programs and the challenges faced by nursing students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; strong data management skills
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Knowledge of student support services and resources
- Sensitivity to diverse student populations and cultural backgrounds.
Full-time, 10 month faculty, grant-funded position in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. A minimum of a master’s degree, an unencumbered Mississippi RN license (if applicable), a satisfactory criminal background check, and experience working with nursing students of all backgrounds and skill levels is preferred.
