Position Description
Program Specialist for Overdose Data to Action (OD2A)
The MSPHI Program Specialist will work with all members of the MSPHI Team to develop and implement a training plan that incorporates best practices for opioid use disorder. The Program Specialist will also disseminate information, conduct educational events and ensure that subgrantee organizations do the same in their local communities focusing efforts on community-based organizations such as rotary clubs, libraries, fraternal organizations, faith-based groups and others.
Job Duties
· Serve as the subject matter expert on opioid use and abuse for the state.
· Develop and provide training on opioid abuse to first responders, medical professionals, and community, regional, and state organizations.
· Support the Programs Manager with reports, feedback, evaluations, and data.
· Assist community-based organizations with implementing programs for their agency.
· Serve as the first point-of-contact for participating community-based organizations regarding best practices for addressing opioid use disorder.
· Develop of coalitions in high need areas.
· Ability to assimilate and communicate relevant data to state and community stakeholders.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree required in Public Health, Administrative Services, Healthcare Administration, Social Services, Health Services, Epidemiology, Surveying and Assessing Health/Social Service Programs, or a related field.
· Master’s degree preferred in one of the fields listed above.
· Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the program topic or specialty area.
· Strong understanding of the opioid crisis and related public health challenges
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with individuals, partners, and stakeholders.
· Experience in community organization and capacity building
· Ability to plan, facilitate, and support technical assistance events (e.g., conferences, meetings, program monitoring)
· Experience with data collection, management, and reporting with the ability to translate findings into accessible formats
· Familiarity with program evaluation concepts (advanced statistical analysis not required)
· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify challenges and implement solutions
· Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard software applications
· Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire partners and stakeholders
State-wide travel is required. Travel to national conferences is expected to be rare, if it occurs at all, but may be needed in a limited capacity.
