Job Description: The Dean of Student Services is responsible for all aspects of the student services department at the Jackson County Campus and reports to the Jackson County Campus Vice President.
Job Duties
(M1) Ph.D. or Ed.D. in an appropriate field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
(M2) At least 5 years of verifiable work experience in higher education in one or more of the following areas at the Director-level or above: Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Counseling, Veterans Affairs, and/or Enrollment Management.
(M3) Applicable higher education administrative and supervisory experience, including responsibility for evaluating staff and managing budgets.
(M4) Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
(M5) Familiarity with basic internet, email, and word processing functions.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Work experience in a multi-campus community college.
(D2) Successful experience in leading team-building activities.
(D3) Demonstrated experience in planning and overseeing college and/or community events, with a proven ability to attract audiences and contribute to the success of the organization.
(D4) Work experience as a community college Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
(D4) Experience with Ellucian Banner.

Job Description: The Dean of Student Services is responsible for all aspects of the student services department at the Jackson County Campus and reports to the Jackson County Campus Vice President.
Job Duties
- Maintains a regular workweek as follows: Monday -- Friday, 8:00 AM -- 5:00 PM. Work may be required beyond 5:00 PM on some weekdays and on weekends in order to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Acts as the College liaison for one of the following: Financial Aid, Admissions, Counseling/Enrollment Services.
- Assists the Vice President of Student Services, Enrollment Strategies, and Advancement to carry out and maintain the district-wide strategic enrollment management plan, making recommendations for improvement/change as needed.
- Supervises the Director of Admissions and Records and the admissions functions.
- Supervises the Director of Financial Aid and the financial aid functions.
- Supervises the Director of Enrollment Services and the enrollment services/counseling functions.
- Supervises the Coordinator of Student Activities, Campus Recreation Coordinator, and Intramural functions.
- Supervises campus Assessment/Testing Center and all testing programs (ACT, COMPASS, on-line proctor testing, etc.).
- Plans and supervises the campus registration process in conjunction with the district office, other campuses and centers, Deans of Teaching & Learning and Business Services, and Campus Vice President.
- Ensures, in conjunction with the Dean of Teaching & Learning, that each student has an appropriate faculty advisor.
- Makes registration work assignments in conjunction with the Deans of Teaching & Learning and Business Services.
- Supports Campus Police to maintain a safe campus environment.
- Responds to and administers on-campus student health and first aid issues.
- Plans, coordinates, and participates in the student orientation process.
- Processes all student discipline problems in accordance with college policy. Administers the Due Process Policy for student conduct matters: Counsels students on conduct issues, administers appropriate sanctions, and refers students to Conduct board.
- Prepares, in conjunction with computer center personnel and the Technology and Research Division, all enrollment reports and serves as requested as the contact for the Mississippi Community College Board enrollment auditors.
- Supervises the processing and evaluation of all applications for graduation.
- Assists in planning graduation ceremonies and serves on the college-wide graduation committee.
- Prepares all budget recommendations and approves all purchases for the Jackson County Student Services Division.
- Assures the timely and accurate input of employee leave into BANNER for all student services personnel.
- Annually reviews all publications and forms used by the Student Services Division and recommends appropriate revisions.
- Ensures that Student Services personnel maintain currency of knowledge and skills relative to the Ellucian BANNER administrative software.
- Works with counterparts from other campuses and the district office to ensure consistent administration of college policies and procedures, as well as recruitment and enrollment events.
- Works constantly to promote a student-centered attitude among all campus employees.
- Serves on the Jackson County Campus Leadership Team.
- Serves on college wide councils, including the Student Services Council on a permanent basis and the Instructional Affairs Council on a rotational basis. Also, serves as a member of the college-wide student services team and other relevant college councils and committees.
- Actively participates in civic and community organizations and functions as a representative of the Coll ge.
- Supports and attends college events, performances, games, and activities.
- Assures campus compliance with all college policies and procedures in an effort to assure the one college commitment to students.
- Supports the student services needs of the Haley Barbour Maritime Training Academy.
- Annually evaluates all Student Services personnel supervised and assures that all personnel in the student services area are evaluated.
- Serves as Chair of the Awards Committee, Admissions Committee, and Scholarship Committee.
- Assume other duties assigned by the Jackson County Campus Vice President or Vice President of Student Services, Enrollment Strategies, and Advancement.
