This Position is for an Assistant Chief of Campus Police - Perkinston Campus with a public university located in Perkinston, MS.
Job Description: The Assistant Chief of Police will report directly to the Chief of Campus Police. The successful candidate will ensure the safety of the campus community by maintaining law and order on campus and enforcing the College rules and regulations and laws of the State of Mississippi. The officer will investigate campus incidents and criminal acts such as larcenies, vandalism, disturbances, as well as respond to all campus emergencies.
Job Duties
M(1) Hold a current Professional Certificate awarded by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training of the State of Mississippi, (qualified Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer under the
Provisions of Chapter 474 General Laws of Mississippi, 1981) (Provide Copy of Certificate from BLEOST).
M(2) Five Years of law enforcement experience.
M(3) Ability to perform physically active duties (walking the campus, directing traffic, lifting at least 20 pounds).
M(4) Demonstrate experience in the in the use of computers and related software.
M(5) Pass a background investigation.
Desirable Qualifications
D(1) Two years law enforcement supervisory experience.
D(2) First Aid, CPR, AED, hazardous materials and/or other emergency response training.
D(3) Experience in a community college or educational setting.
D(4) Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

Job Duties
- Assist the Chief of Police with administrative and operational duties.
- Ensure safety of the campus community by enforcing Mississippi state laws and campus rules and regulations, using appropriate procedures.
- Complete and submit all required reports, logs, and forms.
- Must be available to work all shifts and weekends. This includes sporting events and any other event college wide.
- Arrive on time for duty and be well groomed, clean, and neat in uniform.
- Assistant Chief must attend all training and meetings as prescribed by the Chief of Police.
- Assistant Chief will be required to patrol the campus, including corridors, buildings, and parking lots.
- Assistant Chief will escort faculty, staff, and students when needed.
- Assistant Chief will be required to report any hazards to the MGCCC Maintenance Department.
- Assistant Chief must be able to type written reports in the college data base and be able to complete the report by the end of his/her shift.
- Ability to perform physically active duties (walking campus, directing traffic, and lift at least 20 lbs.).
- Assistant Chief must be able to handle themselves in a professional manner when dealing with students, personnel, or the public.
- Assistant Chief will unlock and lock the campus on a daily basis, and may be called to unlock offices for personnel and for events.
- Assistant Chief must be able to work independently or as a member of a team.
- Perform public relations tasks such as provide directions to visitors and assist the campus community whenever possible.
- Assist in the supervision of student activities when requested by appropriate administrators.
- Prepare all necessary evidence for Campus Judicial hearings and/or criminal court.
- Investigate campus crimes and incidents.
- Monitor and enforce all traffic and parking regulations.
- Issue parking decals and ID's to faculty and students.
- Make bank deposits as needed.
- Maintain a good working relationship with other law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
- Perform criminal background checks.
- Monitor video surveillance cameras.
- All Police Officers will answer directly to the Assistant Chief of Police and then the Chief of Police.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police and Dean of Business Services.
