Job Summary

Mission Viejo Christian School seeks a passionate, creative, Christ-centered Art Teacher to inspire students in grades K–8 to explore and develop their God-given artistic gifts. The teacher will cultivate creativity, curiosity, and appreciation for the visual arts while helping students recognize that creativity reflects the beauty, order, and imagination of God’s creation.

Requirements / Qualifications

•A cover letter explaining your interest in Christian education and a summary of your experience in teaching •Resume •Three current letters of recommendation (within 2 years) •2 Professional •1 Spiritual •Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential if applicable

Qualifications: Born-again Christian living in alignment with the moral standards in the Personnel Handbook Genuine love for children and passion for nurturing their creativity Practicing artist with strong creative vision and technical skill Patient, enthusiastic, encouraging teaching style Excellent classroom management and organizational abilities Bachelor’s degree (Art Education or related field preferred) and current teaching credential Minimum 2 years of teaching experience Team player and servant leader with strong interpersonal skills Yearbook experience preferred Instruction & Curriculum: Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate art lessons for grades K–8 that build creativity, technical skill, and appreciation for the visual arts. Introduce a wide range of media and disciplines, including drawing, painting, clay, sculpture, mixed media, crafts, and design. Teach foundational art elements (line, shape, color, texture, form, pattern, composition) in developmentally appropriate ways. Encourage experimentation, individual expression, and sound artistic techniques. Incorporate art history, notable artists, and diverse styles to broaden students’ understanding. Design progressive lessons that advance from foundational exploration (K–6) to more advanced techniques (JH elective).

Organize art displays, exhibitions, or school events to showcase student work. Collaborate with classroom teachers for cross-curricular art integration when appropriate. Communicate regularly with parents and staff about student progress, projects, and events. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school community activities. Support the school’s mission through words, attitude, and example. Weave a biblical worldview into art lessons, showing how creativity honors God and reflects His design. Encourage students to use their artistic gifts to glorify God and serve others.
