Wyvern Underwriters is proud to partner with Mission Underwriting Managers in the search for a Senior Underwriter specializing in Non-Profit & Social Services. This high-impact role offers visibility across the organization and carries partial accountability for the profitability and performance of the Non-Profit and Social Services portfolio.
What You'll Do
- Reports directly to the Underwriting Manager and is instrumental in marketing, broker distribution and underwriting operations.
- Underwriting of individual submissions that are received from the company’s brokers.
- Involvement in the areas of mentoring, developing, and directing the junior underwriting staff.
- Assist in developing relationships with new insurance brokers and maintaining ongoing relationships building with these brokers.
- 7 years of experience in an underwriting role with some limited team management experience a plus.
- Extensive experience working with and/or underwriting non-admitted general liability and professional liability products along with exposure to property and related products.
- Successful track record of managing and growing a profitable book of business and strong distribution relationships with wholesale broker base.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and willingness to contribute ideas and opinions to the overall success of the organization.
- Exercise sound judgment regarding risk selection and appropriate pricing of coverage within individual authority level and underwriting guidelines.
- Current working knowledge of the Non-Profit & Social Services industry including the products and services offered and insurance products necessary for this business segment.
- Assist with building a growing and profitable book of business emanating from a core group of wholesale brokers.
- Contribute to business profitability as measured by underwriting loss ratio of the overall book of Non-Profit & Social Services business.
- Able to work with minimal supervision and operate with the highest level of integrity and self-awareness.
- Requires a quiet work environment with regular sitting at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasional walking and standing, and lifting of up to 10 lbs.
- Regular use of hands and fingers.
- Frequent talking or hearing.
- Vision requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, focus and depth perception.
