A respected California workers’ compensation defense practice is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing team. Position Overview
The attorney will represent employers and insurance carriers in California workers’ compensation matters from intake through final resolution. Responsibilities include managing active files, appearing before Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board judges, handling depositions, developing litigation strategies, negotiating settlements, and maintaining regular communication with clients and claims professionals.
Attorneys are expected to take ownership of their matters while collaborating with colleagues regarding case strategy and litigation planning.
Responsibilities
- Defend employers and insurance carriers in California workers’ compensation matters
- Manage cases from intake through final resolution
- Appear before Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board judges
- Take and defend depositions
- Analyze medical records and exposure issues
- Develop litigation and settlement strategies
- Prepare pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Communicate directly with clients, adjusters, and claims professionals
- Maintain timely and accurate billing entries
- Collaborate with attorneys regarding case strategy
- Prepare matters through trial posture when necessary
- Negotiate settlements and efficiently resolve disputes
Qualifications
- Active California Bar membership in good standing
- Strong courtroom experience required
- Ability to independently handle judicial interactions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and client-management abilities
- Professional demeanor suitable for sophisticated clients and judicial officers
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, mentorship-driven environment
- Preferred qualifications include workers’ compensation defense experience and prior experience managing a full caseload. Attorneys with significant public-sector trial experience may also be considered.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation is determined based on overall experience, courtroom ability, production, and demonstrated value.
- Approximately $130,000 for early-career attorneys
- $180,000 for highly experienced attorneys
