At Mission Point Resort, our culinary program—from beautifully crafted banquet menus to elevated dining experiences—plays a vital role in creating unforgettable moments for our guests. As Mackinac Island’s only full-service, casually elegant resort, we are seeking a talented and motivated Sous Chef to support our culinary leadership team and help deliver exceptional food and service across the resort.
About the Role
The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, consistency, and presentation. This hands-on, leadership-focused role includes supervising kitchen staff, managing prep and production, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and contributing to menu development.
This position is ideal for a culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, leads by example, and takes pride in delivering thoughtful, well-executed dishes. The Sous Chef plays a key role in shaping guest experiences through creativity, precision, and teamwork.
Qualifications:What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong background in a high-volume culinary environment (resort, hotel, or banquet experience a plus)
- Education/Training: Culinary degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience
- Leadership Skills: Ability to supervise, train, and motivate a diverse team
- Technical Skills: Strong knife skills, understanding of cooking methods, and ability to manage multiple stations
- Professional Traits: Detail-oriented, reliable, organized, calm under pressure, and committed to excellence
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 40 lbs, work on your feet for extended periods, and handle the physical demands of a busy kitchen
- Communication: Clear communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively with culinary and front-of-house leadership
- Location Requirement: Must be able to live and work on Mackinac Island during the operating season
