The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services. We advocate for health equity and deliver innovative, high-quality services responsive to the neighborhoods and diverse communities we serve.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for our Behavioral Health Clinician - Youth Focused role. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health and Substance Use Counseling. The starting salary range is $84,252 to $92,718 for associate-level clinicians and $100,980 to $106,386 for licensed clinicians, with full benefits. Offers will be based on the applicant’s licensing and experience qualifications.

Primary Objective:

As a member of MNHC’s primary care team, the Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) provides crisis intervention, grief and bereavement counseling, stress reduction, problem-solving support, and guidance on healthy coping strategies in individual, family, and group settings. The BHC refers clients to specialty services when more intensive mental health or substance use treatment is needed. Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Director, the BHC delivers age-appropriate care in accordance with agency policies and state and federal regulations, conducting assessments, treatment planning, care coordination, and connecting patients with community resources to address complex needs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across MNHC clinics to provide coordinated, patient-centered care, including warm hand-offs.
  • Deliver behavioral health services to clients with mild to moderate mental health, psychosocial, and substance use concerns.
  • Conduct assessments, crisis interventions, and short-term counseling using evidence-based approaches (CBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, harm reduction).
  • Educate clients on coping strategies for depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, and chronic conditions.
  • Connect clients to internal and community resources and coordinate referrals for higher-acuity mental health and substance use services.
  • Facilitate behavioral health groups and wellness workshops.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and meet productivity, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Participate in team consultations, supervision, quality improvement, and behavioral health initiatives.

  • Effectively organizes tasks, sets priorities, and completes work on time while analyzing information thoughtfully before making decisions.
  • Proficient in using general office equipment.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work from an accredited program or university.
  • Active LMFT or LCSW license and registration with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • AMFT of ACSW may be considered based on familiarity with integrated care models.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in a primary care setting preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
  • Knowledge of health, mental health, and social issues impacting Latino and immigrant communities.
  • Flexibility, ease working in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Desire and ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

As a condition of employment, all candidates are required to meet specific immunization standards. Documentation of current immunizations, including Varicella, TDAP, COVID-19, MMR, and Hepatitis B, as well as TB test results valid within the last two (2) years must be submitted before the start date. Failure to provide this documentation may result in a delayed start or withdrawal of the job offer.
