Position Title: Mission Market Assistant Retail Manager
Reports to: Mission Market Store Manager

PROGRAM STATEMENT: The Mission Market generates financial support for Muncie Mission Ministries by giving the community a meaningful way to care for people experiencing homelessness through the donation and purchase of gently used items, with 100% of net proceeds funding the Mission's ministry and services.
POSITION SUMMARY: Works under the direction of the Store Manager to carry out all retail operations in the store, including, but not limited to, creating a Christ-centered environment, register operations, customer service, store appearance and displays, and employee interactions, as outlined in the essential functions of the job and in compliance with company policies, procedures, and mission statement.
Qualifications:
· Must be in agreement with the philosophy, policies, and mission statement of the ministry and be able to view this as a team ministry with a servant’s heart.
· Must be dependable, consistently at work on time, and able to work independently.
· Must interact professionally with guests, volunteers, and the general public and be able to prioritize work activities, use time wisely, communicate effectively – both verbally and in written form, and develop realistic action plans.
Essential Functions:
· Assists the Store Manager daily, in the building of the team, by being an example of Christ to all staff, donors, and customers.
· Assists the Store Manager, in the retail operations of the store, including the handling of cash and credit card payments, non-cash purchases, voids and refunds, in order to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
· Completes with accuracy, Daily Reconciliation Sales Reports, Bank deposits, Daily Sales charts, Category Sales chart, and Donations charts, and properly save and store all paperwork to ensure truthful reporting and recording of daily sales and donations.
· Assists the Store Manager, in making daily bank deposits and acquire change for the register to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
· Works with Store Manager to establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
· Works with the Store Manager to train new employees in order to ensure the employees have all essential training needed to be successful in their position.
· Work with store staff in maintaining the physical appearance of the store, including, but not limited to: requesting and maintaining needed janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper place, cleaning parking lot, sidewalks, windows and doors, store floors, restrooms, and other public areas, to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees.
· Help identify areas on the retail floor that need to be addressed related to pulls, merchandising, recovery, etc.
· Assists store staff in stocking store shelves and clothing racks in order to provide customers with maximum shopping opportunities.
· Assists store staff in setting up or changing store displays in order to provide a pleasant shopping
environment and to entice customers to shop new areas or items within the store.
· Leads the staff to successfully neutralize negative customer interactions.
· Communicates all events related to customer service issues or problems, register mistakes, employee issues or accidents, and general store operations to the manager in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
· Supervises the store operations and staff in order to ensure compliance with company mission statement and company policies and procedures in the absence of, but under the express direction of the Store Manager.
· Attends as required, or requested, all training events provided by the company and all store meetings as scheduled by the manager in order to keep current on any policy changes, new procedures, and other information essential to performing the job.
· Must be available to work extra hours in the absence of processors.
· Use time keeping system properly.
· Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
· High School diploma or GED required.
· Two to three years experience in retail or related experience preferred.
· Must be a people person with a pleasant and willing attitude and have a servant’s heart.
· Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with an excellent command of the English language and be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
· Must have excellent time management skills, be detail-oriented, and have solid organizational skills.
· Must be able to take initiative, be a problem solver, and be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
· Must possess a demonstrable level of skill and proficiency in planning to meet established goals.
· Strong ability to delegate tasks and hold employees accountable for their productivity .
· Must be able to handle confrontation with love, grace, and professionalism.
· Must have computer skills including typing, Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel (spreadsheets), and Email communications (including attachments).
· Ability to operate general office machines, copier, fax, printers, and scanners.
· Ability to read and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
· Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Physical Demands
· Must be able to lift/carry up to 30 pounds.
· Must be able to stand up to 100% of a standard workday.
· Must be able to lift, bend, and climb stairs.
· Must be able to use hands to perform required duties up to 100% of a standard workday.
· Talk or hear – as needed throughout a standard workday.
Moderate physical activity. Depending on location, this position may require frequent strenuous activity. Able to lift at least 30 pounds. Use hands to lift, sort, clean, organize, throughout standard workday. Depending on location, this position may work in a warehouse setting with some outdoor exposure throughout the workday. Required to wear a name badge.
Vision Requirements
· Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

· Color vision (able to identify and distinguish colors).
· Peripheral vision (ability to observe and area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:
- After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a criminal background investigation.
- Muncie Mission Ministries may request the successful applicant to submit to and pass a drug and /or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to MMM Substance Abuse policy and remain free from addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
Hours:
Monday through Saturday, hours arranged by Director of Retail Operations and approved by President/CEO.
The Mission Market Assistant Retail Manager is an hourly – at will position.
