Since 2008, Mission Local has been steadfastly rooted in San Francisco's Mission District, producing impactful journalism and mentoring the next generation of reporters who represent the city's rich diversity. Initially established as part of UC Berkeley’s Journalism School, Mission Local became an independent media organization in 2014. Our commitment is to community-centric reporting that holds power accountable and highlights stories that matter most to the residents of San Francisco.
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Publisher, located in San Francisco, CA. The Publisher will oversee the strategic operations of Mission Local, including managing budgets, fostering revenue growth, and maintaining effective partnerships. Responsibilities include leading the organization’s vision, managing the editorial and business teams, overseeing fundraising and advertising efforts, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the publication. The Publisher will also play a critical role in community engagement and fostering relationships with stakeholders.
- Budget management, financial planning, and business development skills
- Experience in digital and print media operations, advertising, and content monetization strategies
- Strong leadership, team management, and organizational skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, including public speaking and relationship building with community members
- Knowledge of San Francisco’s diverse communities and passion for local journalism
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered
- Experience in fundraising and grant writing is a plus
- Familiarity with editorial processes and journalistic ethics is a strong advantage
