What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute School Nurse position at Mission Grammar School?
Position Overview: Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Grammar) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to support the health and well-being of our elementary school students. The ideal candidate will provide direct nursing services, promote a healthy school environment, and collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to support student success
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including first aid, chronic condition management, and emergency response.
- Administer prescribed medications and maintain accurate health records in compliance with MA Department of Public Health regulations.
- Monitor student health, identify communicable diseases, and manage health screenings (vision, hearing, BMI, etc.).
- Collaborate with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns.
- Promote a healthy school environment through education and by enforcing state and local health regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and MA health guidelines
Qualifications:
- Current Massachusetts RN license (required) no LPNs
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing preferred (not required)
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Working Conditions:
- School year position substituting for a maternity leave, with potential for extended year opportunities
- Standard school hours 8am-3pm, with occasional flexibility for meetings or emergencies
- Physical ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
