Reports to: Director of Aquatics
Job Summary:
Seeking a responsible and attentive Lifeguard to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons in and around the Miss Porter’s School pool. The ideal candidate is alert, physically capable, and committed to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment through proactive supervision and quick response to emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor pool activities continuously to ensure the safety of all swimmers and guests
Enforce pool rules and regulations in a professional and consistent manner
Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies by following established Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and facility procedures, including performing water rescues and administering first aid or CPR/AED as necessary.
Complete accident, incident, and rescue reports accurately and in a timely manner as required
Maintain a clean and safe pool environment by identifying, reporting and addressing potential hazards
Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with others
Participate in regular safety drills, in-service training and team meetings
Work collaboratively with team members while also demonstrating the ability to work independently
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age
Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings and weekends
Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid must be maintained throughout employment
Strong swimming skills and physical ability to perform rescues and respond in emergency situations
Ability to remain alert, attentive and focused for extended periods
Prior lifeguarding or aquatic experience (preferred but not required)
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of pool safety rules, emergency procedures, and risk prevention practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to stay calm and make quick decisions under pressure
Dependable, punctual and highly responsible
Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
Work Environment:
Indoor pool setting
Physically active role requiring prolonged standing, sitting and swimming
