Barista/ Cafe associate (weekends required)

Position: Barista / Café Associate

Reports To: Bakery Supervisor

Position Summary

The Barista / Café Associate is responsible for creating a welcoming customer experience while preparing high-quality coffee beverages, panini sandwiches, and bakery items in our retail storefront. This position is responsible for maintaining inventory, completing daily operational checklists, keeping the café clean and organized, and ensuring every customer receives friendly, efficient service that reflects the bakery’s values.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service

• Welcome every customer with a friendly, positive attitude.
• Provide exceptional customer service by answering questions and making product recommendations.
• Accurately process customer orders and payments.
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and notify management of any issues requiring assistance.
• Maintain a clean, inviting, and professional café atmosphere.

Food & Beverage Preparation

• Prepare coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty beverages according to company recipes and standards.
• Prepare panini sandwiches and other café menu items following established recipes and food safety procedures.
• Serve bakery products with attention to presentation and freshness.
• Ensure all food and beverages meet company quality standards before serving.

Inventory & Stock Management

• Complete daily inventory and opening/closing checklists.
• Monitor and restock syrups, coffee supplies, sandwich ingredients, packaging, and retail products throughout the day.
• Notify supervisors when inventory is running low.
• Rotate inventory using First In, First Out (FIFO) practices to minimize waste.
• Keep refrigerators, display cases, and storage areas clean and organized.

Cleanliness & Food Safety

• Maintain a clean and sanitized café, kitchen, and customer seating area throughout each shift.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
• Wash dishes, clean equipment, sanitize work surfaces, and complete daily cleaning checklists.
• Ensure restrooms and customer areas remain clean and stocked when applicable.

Teamwork & Operations

• Arrive on time and prepared for each scheduled shift.
• Work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining accuracy and quality.
• Assist coworkers as needed to ensure smooth café operations.
• Follow all opening, closing, and cash handling procedures.
• Communicate inventory shortages, equipment issues, customer feedback, or operational concerns to management promptly.

Qualifications

• Previous barista, café, restaurant, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
