MISO Default Brand
Carmel, IN Full Time
POSTED ON 1/13/2026

In this role, you’ll help guide complex technical studies to identify the most economically optimal mix of new generation resources and supply options, ensuring that our system can meet future needs while adapting to evolving policies, technologies, and market dynamics. Your work will directly inform MISO members, stakeholders, and state and federal regulators as they evaluate the reliability and economic impact of emerging energy policies and technologies. Along the way, you’ll use cutting-edge modeling tools such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, and PSS/E to bring data-driven insights to life.

What You’ll Do:

  • Shape the future of the grid by building multiple forward-looking planning scenarios across a 20-year horizon—accounting for economic shifts, policy changes, technology advancements, and more.
  • Help guide resource planning efforts by running capacity expansion simulations using tools like PLEXOS and other advanced modeling software.
  • Translate complex analyses into clear insights—using graphs, charts, and compelling narratives that highlight the “so what” behind the data.
  • Enhance and support MISO’s economic modeling framework for the bulk power system using industry-leading simulation tools.
  • Collect, validate, and process critical input data from internal and external sources to ensure accurate, actionable analysis and reporting.

This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise with big-picture strategy—helping to guide the energy industry toward a reliable, sustainable, and economically efficient future.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology.
  • At least six years of relevant experience. Prior industry experience is preferred in areas such as electric energy resource planning, energy policy, electric power industry economics, power plant and transmission line modeling, environmental regulations, or project management, with additional preference given to candidates who have worked for an Independent System Operator (ISO), Regional Transmission Operator (RTO), federal or state regulatory commission, Electric Reliability Organization (ERO), Regional Reliability Organization (RRO), or a utility.

While not required, it would be great if you had experience in economic modeling of power systems (such as EGEAS, PROMOD, or PLEXOS).

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

This is your opportunity to shape the future of energy. Apply today and join us in revolutionizing the transmission industry!
