Position Summary
The primary function of the Sales Manager is to focus on increasing sales volume, closing ratios, margins and manage customer-owned inventory levels. The Sales Manager must focus on customer service, customer education, staff training and motivation and daily operations. High priority and efforts are expected in the areas of communicating and monitoring Sales Associates' compliance with policies and procedures and ensuring that proper training is given to maximize sales performance. Appropriate emphasis should also be placed on recruiting and hiring Sales Associates to meet staffing objectives.

· Responsible for ensuring all Sales Associates and retail employees exhibit and maintain a high standard of customer service that sets us apart from our competition.
· Lead by example and be the motivational and driving force to ensure sales goals are achieved
· Disseminate policies and procedures to sales staff and ensure compliance with them. Provide on-the-job training for Sales Associates in the areas of products, policies, procedures, sales techniques, and customer service and reinforce the initial training received from the Company. The manager should become a mentor for their staff providing the necessary guidelines and sharing valuable knowledge.
· Communicate company sales goals and assist Sales Associates to establish individual goals.
· Develop, manage, and measure the performance of assigned Sales Associates.
· Conduct one-on-one performance review meetings to address areas of strength and weakness. Counsel Sales Associates who are below expected sales levels and set reasonable plan of action for improvement.
· Attends all required meetings. Conduct sales meetings as assigned. Communicate sales meetings schedule to sales associates.
· Monitor weekly all required sales reports and standards (Sales Associate performance, FPP sales, Bedding sales, door count reports, employee timecards, delivery exceptions report, etc.). Take appropriate action to correct deficiencies in any of the above areas or as needed.
· Oversee the proper handling of FOB customers.
· Be a source of empathetic support, inspiration, and positive leadership to the sales staff by keeping them on schedule to meet their goals and mindful of our core values.
· Track attendance and punctuality of sales force. Approve leave requests as needed.
· Identify personnel issues. Conduct disciplinary meetings and complete documentation for Human Resources.
· Ensure housekeeping checklists are completed to maintain the high level of standards desired within the Company.
· Work on the schedule for special events as assigned by the Store Manager.
· Respond to escalated customer concerns.
· Be available for guidance, problems, questions, special pricing requests and customer calls. Give appropriate manager approval on policy exceptions.
· Actively pursue opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.
· Educate Sales Associates and customers about product lines, product history and the technology within the products we carry. Keep current on industry practices and trends.
· Educate Sales Associates and customers on our competition, including up-to-date information on competitor line-up, styles, prices, sales tactics, policies, business practices and advertisements.
· Communicate current advertising, sales events, finance offers and any other special offers to Sales Associates. Present detailed review on all forms of advertising (newspaper, TV, radio) and specifics as to merchandise being advertised (sku, quantity and locations). Know and be able to locate all advertised items.
· Manage the UP’s system and ensure Sales Associates’ compliance.
· Open and close the store as assigned by the Store Manager. If applicable, respond to after-hours security alarm calls.
· Monitor the security of all merchandise, personnel and customers on the showroom floor. Respond accordingly to issues.
· Participate in industry and trade group activities as assigned by the Store Manager.
· Manage the door count system and ensure Sales Associates’ compliance.
· Assist in maintaining suitable environmental surroundings. This includes internal and external store products; counters; breakroom, restrooms; cleanliness and organization; merchandising, signage and presentation alignment. Includes care for company property to ensure the longest possible life span on these investments.
· Outside of the manager’s immediate control, notify Facility Manager of environmental concerns, including building and grounds.
· Responsible for upholding and enforcing all Company policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications
Education/Experience – High School Diploma or equivalent; A minimum of three (3) years sales experience. Prefers two (2) years of sales management experience. Previous furniture retail experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability – Strong leadership skills; proficient in the use of current technologies; detail-oriented, able to execute efficiently, and follow through; ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize effectively; must possess knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within sales; problem solving skills.
