The person in this position is the clinical Team Lead responsible for overseeing the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program, ensuring it functions effectively and adheres to treatment principles. This role involves a blend of clinical leadership, organizational negotiation, and enhanced clinical skills to manage the treatment environment, support the team, and guide consultation meetings. Key duties include ensuring fidelity and comprehensive DBT is delivered, promoting adherence, facilitating problem-solving, and acting as a bridge between the treatment team and the wider organization. The DBT Team Lead is responsible for ensuring the structured treatment environment for Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which includes overseeing and supporting the phone coaching process. The DBT Team Lead's role involves supporting the team to effectively use these methods to achieve fidelity and comprehensive DBT. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the entire treatment environment is structured to meet the goals of fidelity and comprehensive DBT.
  • Leads the DBT Consultation Team, keeping the team focused on goals, and addressing team-interfering behaviors.
  • Shapes how the team adheres to the DBT fidelity/comprehensive model across its various components (individual therapy, skills group, phone coaching, consultation team).
  • Acts as the “innovation champion,” liaising with the organization to help implement changes and secure the resources needed to run the program.
  • Support clinicians and help them think through their cases using DBT theory. In skills groups, a co-leader structure is often used to ensure balance between acceptance and change, and to prevent burnout, with a similar supportive dynamic being encouraged at team level.
  • Networking with external organizations to support funding, training and professional collaboration and marketing the service to have optimal occupancy rates.
  • Assess applications for the program and liaise with referral agencies.
  • Provide clinical advice during intake and discharge.
  • Manage risk according to agency policy through thorough training, and clear protocols for assessment, consultation, reporting and debriefing.
  • Advise on the development of clinical service delivery policies and procedures.
  • Advise clinical oversight and feedback to staff through regular team consultation meetings along with managing critical incidents.
  • Provide one-to-one therapy and facilitating skills groups.
  • Advise and contribute to the development of assessment processes, outcome measurement and accurate statistical reporting.
  • Provide Trauma treatment to clients.
  • Provide clinical team leadership, support and assure adequate supervision of team members to maintain high quality, evidence-based treatment.
  • Ensure all staff members are receiving sufficient training so they can carry out their duties effectively and that their skills and competencies are being developed.
  • Maintain timely and accurate client records to ensure they meet DWIHN, CARF, and agency standards
  • Must meet agency productivity and performance standards
  • Must adhere to all requirements/standards of the Behavioral Health Telehealth Agreement
  • Adhere to MiSide policies and procedures
  • Adhere to MiSide code of ethics, and comply with local, state and federal laws
  • Participate in in-service planning and programming
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned

 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related human services discipline
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with evaluation, treatment, and services delivered to adults and their families.

REQUIRED LICENSURES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a private vehicle for day-to-day job performance
  • Must possess the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) certification
  • Must have successfully completed the MDHHS Fidelity Trainings
  • Knowledge of theoretical principles and practices relevant to the clinical components of the program, including Community Mental Health and DWIHN Standards of Care
  • Ability to establish effective clinical and collaborative relationships with a wide range of people
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees, managers and the general public
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills and professionalism toward internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and assume self-direction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Ability to input data, organize and manage confidential documents and records
  • Ability to maintain cultural awareness and sensitivity to differing backgrounds
  • Proficient in the use of all MS Office applications, Office 365 and familiarity with other web-based solutions
  • Flexibility, time management, and critical thinking skills
  • Services will be provided in the office, or other appropriate community settings 
  • Work may require vehicle travel in an urban community
  • Must be able to tolerate varied weather conditions when traveling within the community
