Clinical Therapist - School Based Services

A. General

This is a professional position providing a wide range of support and treatment services to a variety of consumers. The person in this position will function as part of a school team and will provide psychotherapeutic services to children, youth, and families at select schools in a Public School System. This position functions with a great deal of professional independence under the general guidance and supervision of the School Based Services Program Manager or Director.

B. Specific

  • Provide on-site direct and indirect services with children, youth, and their families assigned to program groups.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and periodic reviews with clinical and designated school personnel to coordinate efforts and maximize goal achievement
  • May assist with program planning evaluation
  • May evaluate and refer identified consumers to more or less restrictive programs based on individual needs
  • Collaborate with other clinical staff in planning and implementing treatment and activities
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings
  • May provide support services and act as liaison with the community
  • Maintain consumer records in keeping with professional standards and in a timely manner
  • Participate in in-service trainings
  • Work with families and individuals to assist the consumer in functioning and performs crisis intervention and emergency evaluations, as necessary
  • Responsible for direct service productivity and documentation standards per agency and program expectations
  • Must adhere to agency policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all requirements/standards of the Behavioral Health Telehealth Agreement
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned.

Knowledge of Special Education System and IEPC process

  • Ability to establish effective clinical and collaborative relationships with a wide range of persons
  • Concern, maturity, and good judgment in relating to persons with mental illness and emotional disturbances
  • Ability to prepare prompt, clear, and timely documentation
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of specialized services in the community for youth and families
  • Ability to assess and evaluate children on evaluation scales
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to receive and utilize constructive recommendations
  • Ability to maintain a professional posture in attendance, attitude, conduct, and conflict resolution
  • Flexibility and common sense
  • Ability to tolerate ambiguity, crisis, and changing priorities
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

A. Education, Licensure and/or Certification

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related mental health discipline
  • Appropriate State of Michigan professional licensure (LMSW, LLMSW, LPC, LLPC, LLP, LP)

B. Experience

Minimum of 1-year experience with treatment and services for children and families, required

Experience in field of mental health and social work in the community, preferred
