The Department
Our clients are disrupting markets through new technology and novel services in fields such as AI, fintech and deep learning, typically with a cloud offering focus. The majority of our clients are technology suppliers and demand lawyers who understand their business and their tech as well as provide innovative solutions. Our client base ranges from early-stage start-ups through to large multi-national conglomerates and the successful candidate will have exposure to the full breadth of a tech company's life cycle.
We draw on our experience of working with some of the world's leading and fastest-growing technology enterprises, to ensure our clients benefit from knowledgeable, practical support. Our Commercial and Technology team includes lawyers with PhD and science degrees, who have a deep understanding of what's involved in creating and developing a technology business. As a result, we can support clients with advice that's commercially as well as legally focused and tailored to their industry sector.
Sector and practice focuses for the broader Commercial and Technology Team include: Life sciences, patents, brands, designs, trade secrets, digital media, IT and outsourcing, commercial and GC support, FinTech, financial services and data and regulatory.
The Role
We are looking for an Associate (2 - 4 PQE) to join our highly regarded Technology Transactions Group which forms part of our larger Commercial and Technology Team.
You should have experience of working on a broad range of technology matters, particularly SaaS/Cloud solutions and hybrid software/hardware offerings, with strong experience of directly negotiating technology agreements such as software licences and reseller agreements for a variety of domestic and international clients. You need to demonstrate a passion in relation to the advancement of technology and its commercial application as well as the ability to fit seamlessly into working with our clients, advising on their business needs. Given the nature of our clients, a working transactional knowledge of data protection compliance is important; however, we have the experience of a fantastic, dedicated data team to draw upon.
For this specific role, a knowledge of having worked with regulated and unregulated FinTechs, including knowledge of the European Banking Authority Guidelines on outsourcing for financial institutions (and other related financial regulatory regimes) and how they relate to commercial transactions would be desirable.
As a mid-level Associate, you will be expected to help develop the junior members of the team, take the lead in relation to smaller transactions and assist in the larger transactions with the team partners. You will be enthusiastic and willing to contribute to developing and growing the practice and involving yourself within the "golden triangle" tech ecosystem which our team is firmly embedded in.
