Join Us as a HIM Specialist! Schedule: 40 hours, Monday-Friday onsite in
Holyoke, MA The HIM Specialist performs daily operations of the HIM
department and related projects and processes, including Master Patient
Index (MPI) maintenance, disclosure of patient information, chart
auditing, quality assurance and many other HIM functions assigned. As a
HIM Specialist: Identifies, researches and corrects data integrity
issues within the Master Patient Index (MPI). Communicates MPI data
integrity issues to all impacted areas. Scans and indexes documents
accurately and in a timely manner. Analyzes medical record entries for
completeness, timeliness, and accuracy according to department
procedure; assures key medical record analysis functions are performed
on each record and that any previous deficiencies in current charts are
identified and noted in EMR. Audits accuracy of electronic entry and
facilities resolution of any discrepancies. Tracks and maintains records
of all interactions using our internal systems. Ensures all medical
documentation is entered in the Electronic Medical REcord. Conducts
ongoing quality assurance activities in collaboration with the CDI
Specialist and Director of HIM. Analyzes medical record entries for
completeness, timeliness, and accuracy according to department
procedure; assures key medical record analysis functions are performed
on each record and that any previous deficiencies in current charts are
identified and noted in the EMR. Audits accuracy of electronic entry and
facilities resolution of any discrepancies. Notifies clinicians when
incomplete or delinquent medical records are identified according to
department policy. Serves as a liaison to physicians and other medical
support staff to facilitate complete, timely, and accurate health
information. Processes all ROI requests in accordance with federal and
state requirements and according to The Vistas policy and procedures.
Interpersonal and communication skills Provide excellent customer
service to patients, the medical staff and other hospital employees
Safeguards medical records in accordance with the Privacy Act Maintains
HIPAA compliance regarding any patient and agency records Attends
ongoing training sessions and team meetings. Performs other duties as
assigned. The HIM Specialist will have the following: High school
diploma required. Two years of post-high school or 5 years of experience
in a health care setting preferred Strong computer skills to include MS
Office tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Extensive use of computer and
office equipment Strong computer skills to include MS Office tools
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); Extensive use of computer and
office equipment including fax, copy machines, scanners. Knowledge of
Joint Commission requirements and federal and state guidelines
applicable to health record completeness and patient privacy. Knowledge
of health information systems and data management. Knowledge of health
record content and sequence. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all
phases of work. Ability to process work within presented deadlines and
time frames. Ability to manage multiple projects and large amounts of
