Position Summary
The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist supports GSA’s national safety program by providing expert guidance, policy interpretation, and oversight across a nationwide portfolio. This role serves as a subject matter expert in occupational safety, compliance, and risk management while supporting inspections, training, and program development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on occupational safety, hazard control, and regulatory compliance
- Serve as SME across safety areas including construction, electrical, fall protection, PPE, and hazard analysis
- Conduct inspections, investigations, and risk assessments; develop corrective action plans
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend preventive measures
- Review construction and project plans to ensure safety compliance
- Develop and deliver safety policies, guidance, and training programs
- Support national safety program tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement
- Represent GSA in meetings with agencies, regulators, and stakeholders
- Maintain safety data, records, and compliance with federal standards
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, or related field
- 5 years of experience in occupational safety and health
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and compliance frameworks
- Ability to analyze hazards, interpret technical documents, and recommend solutions
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred:
- Professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM)
- Experience with construction safety and complex facility environments
