Position Summary

The HR Specialist (Benefits & Retirement) serves as a subject matter expert supporting federal employee benefits and retirement programs. This role provides counseling, calculations, compliance support, and administrative guidance related to health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and federal benefits programs.

📍Place of Performance will be at the U.S. Department of Education located at: 400 Maryland Ave SW Washington, DC 20202.

What You’ll Do

• Support employees with federal benefits and retirement questions
• Process benefit enrollments, life events, and retirement paperwork
• Perform retirement, TSP, and Social Security calculations
• Coordinate with payroll and insurance providers
• Maintain accurate benefit and personnel records
• Research regulatory changes and recommend process improvements
• Assist with employee education and benefits communication
• Prepare retirement packages, reports, and correspondence

What You Bring

• U.S. Citizenship required
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 5 years of federal HR benefits and retirement experience
• Strong knowledge of federal retirement systems and health insurance programs
• Experience calculating SCDs and applying federal service rules
• Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills
• Ability to handle sensitive personnel information with discretion

Salary : $40,000 - $80,000
