NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK *** The $66,494 salary for this position is prorated to days worked ***This is a temporary Long Term Substitute position covering for a permanent employee on FMLA from January 2026 through the end of the school year in June 2026.This is a full-time, temporary position. The successful candidate will have Massachusetts licensure in school counseling and be able to adapt quickly to a fast-paced, busy, guidance office. Minuteman guidance counselors provides a comprehensive guidance program for students grades 9-12 and specifically provide guidance and counseling services to meet the needs of assigned caseload: consult with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance effectiveness in helping students; and to provide support to other high school educational programs. Major Responsibilities Counsel individuals and groups of students in assigned caseloads: Plans and ensures implementation of a course schedule that enables students to fulfill graduation requirements and, when applicable, college entrance requirements.

Assists with career planning through the yearly development of a four-year plan using available resources such as Naviance, articulation agreements, and interest inventories. Accepts referrals from staff, teachers, administrators, parents, or others regarding students who are having difficulties at school. Acts as an advocate for students. Assists students with problems related to self-concept, academic problems, social and peer problems, attendance and behavior problems, family issues, child abuse, substance abuse, suicide threats and attempts, and sexuality issues.

Manages course selection and course changes for their caseload of students. Addresses absenteeism as it affects school progress.Consult with teachers, staff and parents, and others to meet the developmental needs of students: Counsels and communicates with teachers, staff, parents, and others regarding issues related to the needs of students. Acts as a liaison between school and home, students and teachers, and others as needed. Assists families with school-related issues.Refers students to and participates in Student Study Teams meetings, Participates in TEAM meetings, parent meetings, or other meetings which address the needs of students.

Make recommendations to the administrative staff regarding the progress of students, concerns about students, school placement, and other referrals as needed.Provides and assist with open houses, tours, and other informational activities at the school regarding rules, programs, courses, and other relevant information. Contacts parents and students regarding promotion and retentionReviews student schedules for required courses.Responds to parent and student questions after schedules are received.Make any necessary adjustments to student schedules before the start of the school year.Assists in the admissions process of new students.Other duties as assigned by the Principal.QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITIONLicensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Minimum 3 years teaching experience preferred.Previous experience with Student information systems preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required.Ability to work as part of a team and foster a positive working relationship with students and staff.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTEquipment Used: Copier, fax machine, smart board, phone, computer.Physical Demands (if applicable): Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is a frequent opportunity to move about. On occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
