minnow is a reflection of the life and style of its founder, Morgan Smith, a mother and entrepreneur with a background in premium product marketing. after working in New York and Los Angeles, she returned to her hometown of Laguna Beach, California where minnow was born. she now lives on the other coast in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband and three children.


with the beach and her family inspiring her daily life, Morgan envisioned a family lifestyle collection with an elevated approach: sun-kissed color palettes, purposeful details, custom prints and high quality, hand-finished production.


THE ROLE


the director of content and creative is the visual architect of the minnow brand. reporting directly to the founder and CEO, you will own the look, feel, and execution of the brand's creative output across every touchpoint, from campaign concepting and editorial direction to catalog production and social content. this is a senior leadership role with real creative authority, a hands-on production scope, and a direct line to the person who built the brand from the ground up.


you will bring structure, taste, and momentum to a creative function that is central to how minnow grows. the right person for this role moves quickly, holds a high standard, and understands that in a brand like minnow, the details are the brand.


WHAT YOU'LL DO


  • lead creative concepting and art direction for seasonal campaigns, lookbooks, and catalog production
  • direct photo and video shoots end to end: from pre-production and location scouting through on-set direction and post-production oversight
  • hire, brief, and manage external creative partners including photographers, videographers, stylists, and producers
  • maintain and evolve minnow's elevated visual language across DTC, wholesale, email, social, and paid media
  • serve as the founder's creative partner, translating vision into execution and pushing ideas further without losing the brand's point of view
  • oversee the social content calendar in partnership with the marketing team, ensuring creative quality and brand consistency at every post
  • build and develop a small internal creative team, including a designer and content coordinator
  • manage creative timelines, budgets, and production logistics across multiple simultaneous projects
  • bring forward-thinking creative ideas that feel both timely and grounded in the minnow aesthetic


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR


  • 7-10 years of creative leadership experience at a fashion, lifestyle, or premium consumer brand
  • a strong editorial eye and proven campaign direction experience across print and digital
  • hands-on production experience: you know how a shoot runs and you know what good looks like on set
  • experience managing and developing creative teams and external production partners
  • the ability to hold a high creative standard while moving at the pace a growing brand demands
  • fluency across brand touchpoints: campaign, catalog, editorial, social, email, and paid
  • charleston-based or willing to relocate; hybrid schedule with meaningful in-office presence


WHO YOU ARE


  • you have a point of view, and you can defend it without being precious about it
  • you can tell the difference between a photo that is beautiful and one that is right for the brand
  • you've led shoots where things went sideways and you fixed it without anyone knowing
  • you've worked with founders before and you know that proximity to vision is an asset, not a constraint
  • you're as comfortable in a production meeting as you are in a creative review
  • you want to build something, not just execute it


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (FIRST 90 DAYS)


  • you've concepted and delivered at least one seasonal campaign or capsule launch: fully art directed, shot, and distributed across primary touchpoints, with founder sign-off achieved in two rounds of revisions or fewer
  • you've established a pre-production brief process that external photographers, stylists, and producers can follow without needing to be re-briefed, cutting pre-shoot prep time by at least 30%
  • you've built a working creative playbook covering visual direction standards, shoot specs by format, and content requirements by channel: a living document the team can execute from without you in the room
