Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments upon arrival to the emergency department, including vital signs, medical history, and presenting symptoms.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians, ensuring patient safety and monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate timely diagnostics, treatments, and disposition decisions.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses in compliance with legal and hospital standards.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, including trauma, cardiac arrest, and other critical events, providing life-saving nursing care and support.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care to promote recovery and prevent complications.
  • Ensure the emergency department is stocked, organized, and compliant with infection control and safety protocols during the night shift.

Skills:

The required skills such as patient assessment, medication administration, and emergency response are applied daily to ensure patients receive timely and effective care during critical situations. Communication skills are essential for collaborating with healthcare teams and providing clear education to patients and families. Critical thinking and decision-making skills enable the nurse to prioritize care and respond appropriately to rapidly changing patient conditions. Documentation skills ensure that all patient interactions and treatments are accurately recorded, supporting continuity of care and legal compliance. Preferred skills like ACLS and TNCC certifications enhance the nurse's ability to manage complex emergencies and trauma cases, improving patient outcomes in the emergency department setting.
