Role:
The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design and manufacturing integration of molded components for high-reliability wire and cable assemblies. This position will interface with customers to understand their challenges with initial concepts and will provide solutions. This individual will bridge the gap between initial design and mass production, ensuring all designs meet stringent regulatory standards for the MedTech (ISO 123485), Aerospace (AS9100), and Defense sectors.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manages engineering design, development, analysis, test and/or product assurance projects to meet customer requirements, cost, quality, performance, innovation and schedule requirements. Hands On - connecting the design to production on the floor
· Defines requirements; and conceptualizes, creates, and analyzes designs to ensure technical effort meets customer contract requirements, systems requirements, government/industry specifications, Company standards and good engineering practices.
· Develop 2D and 3D CAD models for plastic injection molds, overmolds, and connector components.
· Conduct DFM/DFA reviews to optimize wire harness layouts, connector interfaces, and molded strain reliefs for cost-effective production.
· Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles, disciplines, division systems knowledge and customer understanding in guiding and reviewing project direction and outcomes and developing innovative solutions to complex problems.
· Perform Moldflow analysis to predict material behavior, cooling times, and potential defects before tool fabrication.
· Plans and manages internal and external communications, ensuring all project obligations are identified and objectives are met. This includes identifying and acquiring resources, providing project leadership, and anticipating and resolving inter/intra group conflict.
· Provide technical guidance to sales teams during the RFQ phase and interface directly with customers to resolve complex design challenges.
· Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization to reduce cycle times and scrap in high-volume production
· Maintains up-to date knowledge of industry practices, trends, and applications. Advises senior management on potential new developments and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
· Work requires an exceptionally high level of analytical ability to identify, define, interpret and resolve engineering problems involving incomplete information, conflicting design/contractual/policy or technical requirements.
· High levels of communication skills are required to make technical presentations to customers and management regarding project status and technical content.
· Substantial innovation is required to develop new and creative technical solutions to complex engineering problems.
· Proficiency in 3D CAD
· Deep understanding of injection molding processes, including insert molding for connectors
· Hands-on experience with tool and die repair and/or mold maintenance
· Statistical analysis skills are required to support testing and qualification of new tooling, processes, products and systems as needed.
Experience: 2 - 5 years of experience with 3D molding software, design of mold tooling and operation of mold presses for tool validation. Experience operating moldflow analysis software for mold optimization. Previous experience with implementation of tooling for molding machines
Education: Associate or Bachelors Degree in an engineering or industrial field related to manufacturing

· Electrical wiring / cabling systems experience, including application of industry standards and specifications for wiring and soldering
· Wire cutting, stripping, bundling, soldering and cable assembly experience
· Understands and uses ERP software (Global Shop at MW)
