Position Summary
The Printing Technician will print and distribute documents, maintain printers, order, deliver, and proof stationery and business cards, and perform administrative work for the printing department. This position will monitor printing progress, perform basic maintenance on printing machines, such as cleaning and replacing toner, and complete any other duties specific to the job on which you are working.
An ideal candidate will have mechanical and troubleshooting skills to perform simple maintenance of the printers. We seek someone who has flexibility and time management skills to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibility 1: Print and distribute various documents for Senate departments, members, and staff using Xerox, Lemark & RICOH printers.
Percentage of Time: 80%
- Answer emails and phone calls for printing requests from Senate Staff.
- Communicate with staff on when their print orders are ready or when there needs to be adjustments made.
- Deliver documents to departments as requested.
- Strong organizational skills to process high volume copy and print jobs during the legislative session.
- Deliver accurate print outs of various bills needed for floor sessions for Front Desk, Journal, Index, Counsel, and Fiscal.
- Operate printing equipment to obtain proficiency as measured through production and quality standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Senate Printing Team.
Responsibility 2: Maintain printers to ensure printers are functioning for staff and members.
Percentage of Time: 10%
- Change toner on printers and deliver consumables around the facilities when they are empty.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve printing issues on printers in the Minnesota Senate Building and State Capitol when they arise.
- Coordinate service calls with the vendors.
Responsibility 3: Other projects as assigned.
Percentage of Time: 10%
- Complete assigned projects as requested by the Printing and Purchasing Manager.
- Recommend changes to the printing office for process improvements and business effectiveness.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 70lbs, walk between the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol, reach upward, lift boxes and stacks of paper, and has hand dexterity to operate printer cutting machines.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
OR
One (1) year of experience in digital printing or related field.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:
- Ability to work in a non-partisan capacity, supporting all members and staff regardless of party affiliation or position.
- Strong customer service skills to adequately carry out and communicate on printing requests for senators and staff.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of Adobe Software and Microsoft Office Suite 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
