FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Be part of a team that keeps everything running behind the scenes. As a Facilities Maintenance Technician at Dakota Electric, you’ll help create a safe, well-maintained environment for employees and operations—making a meaningful impact every day within a member-focused cooperative.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Keep the building and grounds in good shape so everything runs the way it should day-to-day
  • Handle repairs, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting across equipment, systems, and facilities
  • Take care of HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and other building systems to keep them working properly
  • Stay on top of routine maintenance, inspections, and work orders
  • Do cleaning and upkeep inside the building to maintain a safe, professional workspace
  • Work outside in all seasons doing snow removal, landscaping, and general cleanup
  • Set up and tear down spaces for meetings and company events
  • Work with teammates and outside vendors to get jobs done safely and on time

Compensation & Benefits

Target Salary Range: $32.93 - $39.51 hourly

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Two years of experience in custodial services, facilities, plant and equipment maintenance and construction work involving a wide range of systems and related equipment is required
  • A two-year degree from a technical school in a related field is required or four years of related experience in lieu of degree
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems is required
  • Must have special boilers license or acquire within six months of start date. Must have 2nd class C Boiler license within 1 year of hire. Or must obtain both special boilers license and 2nd class C boiler license within 1.5 years of hire date

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work inside as well as outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Must work safely within the guidelines of Dakota Electric Association.
  • Must be able to work variable schedules.
  • May be exposed to chemicals and fumes such as paint from a spray can, exhaust from machinery and cleaning supplies.

PHYSICAL DEMANS

Lifting/Carrying

Employee may need to lift/carry up to 85 pounds on an occasional basis. While retrieving and moving materials, the maintenance technician is required to reach for boxes on shelves 56 inches above ground.

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance such as filled mop buckets.

Employee is required to lift equipment and set up tables and chairs daily.

Employee is required to lift up to 60 pounds on a daily basis.

Reaching

Reaching and lifting at and above shoulder height is required daily.

Pushing/Pulling

The employee may be pushing and pulling daily, up to 80 pounds.

The employee may be pushing and pulling up to 150 pounds occasionally.

Climbing

Frequently the employee is required to use a 20-foot ladder safely.

Twisting/Rotating

Twisting and rotating from the waist, shoulders and neck is required frequently throughout the day.

Handling

The employee is required to handle a variety of equipment and tools daily.

Frequent gripping and grasping is required.

Kneeling

Kneeling Is Required Frequently When Performing Job Duties.

Standing/Walking/Sitting

The majority (90% to 95%) of the job tasks are performed while standing or walking.

Stooping/Bending/Squatting

Stooping, bending, and squatting is required continuously to stock and retrieve supplies. Bending from waist and stooping is required to reach supplies on floor and shelf. Stooping, bending, and squatting are also required when loading and unloading water softener and supplies.

Talking/Hearing

The employee must communicate with DEA staff, suppliers, and repair people.

Hearing is required to distinguish equipment noises and alarms/signals for warnings to determine problems.

Eyesight

Employee must have ability to read instructions and documentation and operate equipment.

Working Above Ground

Working above ground is required frequently.

Foot Controls

Foot control is required on the job while operating DEA equipment.
