.Executive Director & State Coordinator for Minnesota Operation Lifesaver Minnesota (MNOL) Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) public safety organization (registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State) dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks. Major duties and responsibilities of the Executive Director include: Leadership and Management -Acts as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities. -Coordinates /monthly quarterly meetings with MNOL Board. The Secretary takes minutes at the meetings and the Executive Director maintains them in a shared online folder. -
Develops list of program activities. Solicits input from board advisors and leads implementation of the program’s planned activities and goals, such as International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), Rail Safety Awareness Week, etc. - Applies for OLI, Federal (Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Highway Administration, etc.) and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) grants when grant cycles are announced. Also research and apply for new grant funding sources. -
Manages and oversees all federal and state grants. Complies with grant documentation and reporting requirements. -Prepares the annual state program activities report and submits to National Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI). -
Oversees and approves MNOL website content and FB appropriate social media postings. Writes postings for various social media outlets. -
Reviews all new volunteer applications and consults with OLI’s staff attorney for appropriate processing and review of disclosure and/or background information. - Sends emails to volunteer applicants regarding requirements and links to OL online training sessions. -
Schedules and coordinates sites for face-to-face classes/training and follows up by email or phone call to verify receipt of accurate info and materials. -
Prepares annual contribution letters to Class 1s and Short Line Railroads, research correct addresses or railroad points of contact when they are returned. Includes program activity information and financial documentation required by railroads, such as BNSF Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad, and other supporting railroad companies. -
Uses online access to current statistics from the Federal Railroad Administration. Checks stats for updates and notifies volunteers. - Coordinates with MnDOT representatives for current state data. -
Represents MNOL on community safety coalitions, councils/committees in major metro areas in the state, within reasonable driving distances.
Operational Planning and Financial Planning -Works with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee to set annual strategic goals, budget and fundraising goals. -Completes an Annual Report for OLI. - Manages/tracks execution of the program’s budget, tracks expenditures and provides quarterly financial status reports to the Board of Directors. -
Maintains files of Board meeting minutes and various MNOL documentation. Communication and Outreach -
Assists coaches and conduct face-to-face training sessions for new volunteers, as needed. -
Serves as liaison with community safety related organizations, i.e., Safe Communities, and law enforcement agencies. - Communicates with volunteers by email or phone to notify them of Operation Lifesaver presentations requested by the public. - Periodically requests feedback from requestors about the presentations. - Sends OL materials/supplies to OLAVs for presentations. -
Maintains storage/inventory of Operation Lifesaver printed materials, supplies, and equipment. Orders materials as needed. -
Recruits and oversees training of statewide corps of volunteers who educate the public regarding safety at highway-rail grade crossings and trespass prevention along railroad rights-of-way through Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI)-approved presentations. - Maintains database of all volunteers and their reported activities. Contacts volunteers for verification of data or corrections, as needed. - Works with Coaches/Trainers to ensure new volunteer training is conducted as needed to maintain sufficient levels of current Authorized Volunteers (OLAVs). - Schedules monthly/quarterly OLAV meetings. -
Responsive to all phone and email requests for information on highway-rail grade crossing safety and trespass issues, especially from the public media, elected officials, law enforcement, commercial transportation and educators. - Gives media interviews as requested. Submits press releases to media.
Benefits: • A laptop, printer, office supplies, cell phone and per diem (when traveling) are provided by MNOL. • Flexible Schedule-A minimum of 30 hours per week on average. • Earned Sick Time-Per the Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave, to be eligible, you must work at least 80 hours in MN. A maximum of 48 hours per year based on hire date as the anniversary. • Vacation-Two weeks per year based on hire date as the anniversary. • Pay Range: $19.00-$23.50 per hour.
