Position Summary:
My client is seeking a strategic and hands-on VP of Operations to oversee two small contract manufacturing businesses— a precision machine shop and a metal fabricator in the Twin Cities. This role is responsible for aligning the businesses with company goals, driving operational excellence, and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide executive leadership across both sites, ensuring consistent performance, efficiency, and alignment with business objectives.
- Oversee P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance for each location.
- Lead and mentor a team of department leaders across operations, sales, finance, and HR.
- Standardize and optimize operational processes across the facilities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
- Develop and implement strategic plans that support growth, margin improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure high service levels across all accounts.
- Guide capital investments, equipment upgrades, and technology adoption to support scalability and long-term growth.
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between facilities to create a unified leadership culture.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in an operations leadership role within a contract manufacturing environment (machine shop, metal fabrication, or related industries preferred).
- Deep understanding of machining, fabrication, quality control, and job shop operations.
- Strong background in P&L and team leadership (multi-site operations exp preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to drive results through continuous improvement and strategic planning.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or related field is preferred.
- Aerospace and defense experience is preferred.
