The Cybersecurity Analyst provides technical support within the Enterprise or Agency Information Security Program to ensure that state information assets are protected against current and future threats. Operating across one or more security domains including network and telecommunications security, access and identity controls, application and system security, cryptography, incident management, business continuity, and digital forensics Cybersecurity Analyst supports core Security Operations Center (SOC) functions by monitoring and triaging reported or detected security events, investigating incidents within their scope, documenting findings and actions taken, and resolving issues when possible while escalating urgent or unfamiliar events to the appropriate Incident Handler or team member. The role collaborates closely with internal organizational teams, agency personnel, and external partners to assess and respond to cybersecurity events and also contributes to the Statewide Security Monitoring Initiative (SSMI) by coordinating cybersecurity efforts across state and local partners, researching emerging threats, and communicating relevant intelligence to a broad audience.
This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last up to three (3) years.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 N. Robert St., Saint Paul, MN 55146, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of IT related experience in Security Incident Response or Security Operations.
Experience must include:
- Security Incident Handling.
- Investigating alerts from SIEM or other threat detection platforms, such as determining true/false positives.
- Escalation of security incidents or security operation tasks.
- Supporting or monitoring security tools such as endpoint protection (anti-virus), log management, intrusion detection, web content filtering or similar widely deployed tools used for security and endpoint management.
- Knowledge of and experience with information security standards such as NIST, ISO 27001/17799, COBIT, ITIL, data privacy laws, computer crime laws, statewide data protection laws.
- Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
- Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strongly prefer experience interpreting host, network, or application logs to identify suspicious activity, determine root cause, and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Knowledge and understanding of cyber threats.
- Technical knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
- Fundamental knowledge of network traffic alerts to assess, prioritize and differentiate between potential intrusion attempts and false alarms.
- Ability to balance multiple agendas and objectives for responding to information security issues.
