The MNIT HSDS team combines development and IT operations with a DevOps approach to ensure the reliable and efficient delivery of critical technology systems that serve counties, families, and individuals across Minnesota.
Job Summary
As a senior-level Database Administrator, you will lead the design, administration, and modernization of both on-premises and cloud-based database environments—working with a diverse technology stack that includes Oracle RDBMS, SQL Server, MySQL, NoSQL, Postgress and Hadoop. This position is part of the Database Administration team and will work to support the advancement and management of databases and applications in a mission critical, real-time, 24 X7 system environment.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 540 Cedar St., St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.
Qualifications
Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of direct experience with database administration and data security.
Experience must include:
- Extensive technical knowledge and years of hands-on experience in database administration, data analysis, and relational database design for web-based applications, including direct administration of MS SQL Server and Oracle platforms (with tools such as Data Guard, GoldenGate, and OEM).
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute migrations of on-premises databases and applications to Azure, including provisioning and managing Azure database services (such as Exadata and Autonomous DB), and configuring Azure networking, storage, and security to ensure reliable and secure database workloads.
- Experience performing database health checks, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in Linux/Cloud environments, and working with cross functional teams (Azure architects, application developers, security) to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
- Experience with database security tools, including Key Vault, Audit Vault, Database Firewall, Advanced Security, Database Vault, Label Security, Data Masking, and Sub setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
- Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master’s degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree for one (1) year; and an associate’s degree for six (6) months.
