This position is located at the Waters’ Edge Building in Roseville and may have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and direction in managing the operations of the State Aid Section within the Metro District Office of State Aid. This includes guiding the State Aid Section to ensure that construction plans submitted by Local Agencies for State Aid funding conform to State Aid rules, design standards and practices, and that only eligible items are designated for State Aid funding, as well as other funding programs utilizing State Bonds (Safe Routes to Schools, Local Road Improvement, Bridge Bonds, State Park Road Account, etc.). This position also participates in County and Municipal Screening Board activities, review and approval of Municipal State Aid Street and County State Aid Highway system changes, annual certifications of mileage, and annual Construction Needs reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Three years of engineering experience (Engineer Senior or equivalent) that demonstrates:
    • Thorough knowledge of state aid rules and eligibility.
    • Project management experience sufficient to review and advise clients on project plans, reports, specifications, estimates, and State Aid funding.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising or serving as a lead worker, including providing oversight and work direction and evaluating staff.
  • Experience working collaboratively with local agencies to execute engineering projects.
