Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, this position encompasses the medical records role within the facility and provides flexibility in meeting the overall clerical needs of the Nursing Department.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical coding/terminology sufficient to develop and maintain accurate medical records and transcribe medical reports.
- Typing and word processing skills sufficient to prepare a variety of reports, letters and data summaries.
- Math skills sufficient to calculate totals, averages, and percentages of numbers and/or data.
- Communications skills sufficient to read, explain and interpret a variety of materials, such as materials related to Health Information Management (HIM), and follow detailed instructions.
- Database Management skills sufficient to develop and/or maintain basic databases and electronic medical records systems such as Point Click Care.
- Skills in using spreadsheet software (such as Microsoft Excel) to enter, track, compile and retrieve data and create reports.
- Customer service skills to provide good customer service by effectively communicating and responding to inquiries in a prompt, courteous manner.
- Experience in creating and maintaining accurate medical records, reports, and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) medical diagnosis coding for a skilled nursing facility.
- Knowledge of federal and state Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations related to resident health information.
- Experience working directly with medical transcription sufficient to transcribe dictated or recorded material to written form.
- Knowledge of current transcription technology such as Phillips SpeechExec.
- Experience in reviewing and coordinating release of information requests.
- Experience using PointClickCare software.
- Experience being a PointClickCare Superuser.
This position requires successful completion of the following:
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on the top finalist(s) for this position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
