The TSU Student is a part-time position that exists to support the Drinking Water Protection (DWP) Section, with specific focus on the needs of the Source Water Protection (SWP) program. The individual in the position will address GIS, data visualization, and data programming needs, as well as provide infrastructure and documentation support. This position will use both analytical and informatic skills, as well as organizational skills.
Primary Responsibilities include:
MDH relies heavily on grant funding, in addition to state appropriated dollars. As an agency, we continually monitor funding levels and navigate some degree of uncertainty related to grant cycles and the impact of the grant funding on program priorities.
This position is currently funded and approved to be filled. While the position is funded at this time, future funding is dependent on the continuation of our funding sources. The Minnesota Department of Health works proactively to sustain programs and maintain our workforce to avoid reductions in force to the very best of our ability. In the event of a loss of funding resulting in a necessary workforce reduction, that process is governed by our collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans.

- Support SWP documentation efforts using documentation and process tools, such as Blueworks Live, OneNote, or Teams.
- Provide data gathering, data management and data visualization support as needed, including the use of tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and programming language such as Python.

- Experience with GIS (ArcPro) including collecting and compiling data, writing scripts, creating maps, and working in ArcGIS Online.

- Currently pursuing a degree in environmental science, public health, health education, or a related field.

- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willing to learn platforms such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, as well as experience using Python for GIS tasks, preferably using ArcPy.
