Provide lead work direction to Plant Maintenance Engineer staff in the operations of the Power Plant and all plant-supporting activities. This is to include the machinery repair for operation of the plant operations departments including laundry, kitchen, DDC controls, welding, vehicle maintenance and repairs, and all HVAC. This position will also have the responsibility of being the facility’s proper license holder of a “Chief Engineer – Class C” Operating Engineer’s license. This individual will coordinate inspections for the facility and be registered with the Department of Labor and Industry.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Must possess current licensure in the State of Minnesota as a Boiler Chief Engineer Grade C or higher
  • Leadership skills sufficient to provide leadwork direction that includes prioritizing and assigning job duties, directing, guiding and reporting on work activities of other staff.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Experience in providing lead work direction to other employees, preferably experience in leading licensed and unlicensed trades employees.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC and energy management system maintenance and repair, steam and hot water heating and associated apparatus including refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of underground storage tank monitoring requirements.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components may consist of a physical examination, a drug test, tuberculosis screening, and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
