We are seeking a Clinical Trainee to complete comprehensive evaluations / diagnostic assessments, referrals for additional mental health and / or substance use services, and assist with navigating community resources. Additional responsibilities include providing education to library staff on mental health, substance use, de-escalation skills, and community resources available. The Clinical Trainee will provide consultation and partner with community liaisons, in addition to promoting healthy lifestyles, facilitating meetings, clear and timely documentation, delivering and developing individualized plans of care consistent with client-identified goals and needs.

This position is embedded in the St. Paul Public Libraries (SPPL) providing outreach to children, adults, and families who may benefit from information and referral to services such as basic needs, housing, medical, mental health, and / or substance use services. Help remove barriers to success, such as limited financial history, homelessness, isolation, and poverty. As part of the library team, this position would offer an array of services using evidence-based practices that support clients and facilitate safe, secure, and therapeutic interventions.

Hours : Full-Time Monday - Friday Business Hours

Location : St. Paul Public Libraries (SPPL) : Primarily works at two St. Paul Public Library locations

Hiring Range : Salary variable on licensure and qualifications.

  • Unlicensed Clinical Trainee : $60,906 - $65,779, plus $1,000 hiring bonus for external candidates
  • Licensed Mental Health Professionals : $73,696 - $79,592, plus $2,000 hiring bonus for external candidates

Main Job Duties :

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of client mental health services, ensuring documentation standards are met and addressing emergency situations as needed while demonstrating sound decision-making, discretion, and problem-solving skills at all times.
  • Completion of Comprehensive Evaluations / Diagnostic Assessments, provide case management, and community resource / referral.
  • Provide client support and intervention through involvement in community partnerships.
  • Actively participate in the mental health services providing leadership, sharing of clinical expertise with other team members, and advancing the reputation of services provided.
  • Act as an advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Providing one-to-one support and skills training, individualized interventions, and crisis management using a client-centered approach.
  • Participates in team meetings and processes for communication concerning clients. Participates in clinical supervision team meetings as required, providing the team with thorough, timely, legible, accurate, and objective information.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of community, educational, housing, and other resources available to support community members of all ages.
  • Organize library-based resource events for community members and / or library staff as useful to promote a healthy, safe, engaging, and welcoming library environment.
  • Provide feedback to library staff on techniques and strategies to improve interactions with community members.
  • Develop and facilitate trainings in mental health principles and best practices for library staff, such as recognizing mental health symptoms, de-escalation, motivational interviewing, etc.
  • Required Qualifications : Clinical Trainee

  • Master's Degree in a behavior science or related field (i.e., social work, psychology, marriage, clinical counseling, and family therapy from an accredited college or university).
  • Two years of full-time experience working with people with serious and persistent mental illness and / or substance use disorders.
  • Required Qualifications : Licensed Mental Health Therapist

  • Master’s Degree in the behavioral sciences.
  • Current clinical license as a mental health professional in the State of Minnesota (LP, LPCC, LICSW, or LMFT) with no restrictions.
  • o OR proof of current clinical licensure as described above within 60 days of employment.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Working toward clinical licensure by obtaining required clinical supervision hours and client contact hours outlined by the appropriate licensing board.
  • Current clinical license as a mental health professional in the State of Minnesota (LP, LPCC, LICSW, or LMFT) with no restrictions.
