Attend to the advancement of the Wellness Program for Health Start patients by providing nutritional care services. Provide counseling and nutrition education. Participate in the planning and implementation of related nutrition projects.

  • Attend monthly discipline staff meetings.
  • Provide expertise to ensure compliance with billing, coding, gathering of insurance, chart documentation, or other objectives.
  • Provide needed nutrition services for adolescents and pregnant women at target sites such as obstetric, high school and collaborative interagency clinics. Services include screening, assessment, education, referrals and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Using the nutritional care model provide medical nutrition therapy to patients with dyslipidemia, prediabetes/diabetes, hypertension, PCOS, anemia, abnormal weight and disordered eating.
  • Provide nutrition assessment, counseling and education to obstetric, postpartum, family planning, and pediatric patients, and patients seeking nutrition information such as vegetarian diet, sports nutrition and students with limited food availability.
  • Participate in follow-up care for at-risk patients by participating on a team of inter-disciplinary health care providers.
  • Provide nutrition education classes and conduct groups in areas of prenatal, pediatric and adolescent nutrition, and lifestyle health.
  • Evaluate, select and develop appropriate wellness education materials.
  • Refer eligible patients and their families for food assistance programs.
  • Act as a nutrition and wellness resource person by providing consultative and in-service education to professional staff and students and staff of other interested agencies.
  • Coordinate nutrition services for the target population by collaborating with and referring to existing nutrition programs, and state and local health departments and community agencies.
  • Serve as a mentor for dietetic interns and public health nutrition students as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment
This job operates in a healthcare setting within a school building and is based on a 22 pay periods. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This is a full-time position in a healthcare facility which is open during school hours and school schedule. Summer hours may be decreased when there is also a decrease in Health Start clinical services.


Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirements
Must have the ability to travel between MCC St Paul school-based clinics.


Required Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or dietetics, and completion of an approved dietetic internship or alternative experience approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Registered/credentialed member of the (AND).
  • Licensed in the State of Minnesota.
  • Two years of experience in adolescent nutrition preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with target population(s)
  • Change Agile; ability to operate in the gray and flex to new developments or situations.
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment is highly desired
