The Traveling Exhibit Operations Lead is responsibility falls into three buckets that fit together to achieve delivering quality service to our external customers exhibit host sites. This is achieved through, 1) providing exhibit host sites with the highest level of customer service regarding exhibit logistics, 2) providing oversight of repair, maintenance and fabrication of exhibit components ensuring timely completion and that all exhibits on tour are kept in optimal condition, and 3) supervision of a team of seasonal installation technicians and host site staff/volunteers completing intensive change-outs happening three times per year and ongoing troubleshooting needs. Occasional travel is required. PAY RATE: $29 per hour CLASSIFICATION: Full-time; Non-exempt, Hourly REPORTS TO: Traveling Exhibits Manager ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide traveling exhibit hosts with the highest level of customer service with exhibit logistics: Disburse site support materials and related exhibit information to hosts prior to each venue and update site support materials as needed. Ensure that hosts have received all venue documentation including condition and final reports and are aware of all exhibit requirements and logistical details. Design floor plans for host venues. Evaluate host condition reports in a timely manner. Work to promptly resolve, troubleshoot, and document exhibit issues. Manage shipping logistics and communications with customers regarding shipping. Repair, maintain and fabricate traveling exhibit components and source replacement graphics to ensure that all exhibits on tour are kept in optimal condition: Main point of contact exhibit for troubleshooting and repairs for host venues and installation technicians. Conduct or oversee on-the-road and in-house refurbishments of traveling exhibits to repair and restore products to working condition. Restore, recreate, design, and build exhibit components using wood, plastic, metal and other materials Work with vendors and internal staff to repair or upgrade technology and electronics. Create, track and manage maintenance order tickets in Salesforce People Resource Management (Seasonal Install Technicians, Host Site Staff): In collaboration with the Traveling Exhibit Manager, follow the museum s hiring process to ensure adequate install technician staffing levels for exhibit change out seasons. Work proactively to manage staffing schedules for exhibit change outs in January, May, and September. Each change out season generally includes 10-16 locations and occur within North America. Ensure technician resource skills match exhibit change out project needs. Coordinate and deliver job training to onboard technician resources efficiently. Train technician resources on relevant organizational policies and procedures. Provide timely coaching and direction in problem solving to technicians and host site resources (often done remotely). Act as a back-up Installation Technician as needed. We encourage women, black, indigenous, people of color, those in the LGBTQ communities, and Veterans to apply even if you do not check all the boxes. 2 years of demonstrated experience providing customer service and effectively communicating with customers; preferably in a business-to-business setting. 3 years of demonstrated work experience with a vari ty of fabrication methods and materials; ability to identify and execute fabrication methods to repair exhibits to optimal use. 3 years of demonstrated work experience troubleshooting and diagnosing technical problems in an exhibit or related environment, completing the work individually and/or coaching others. This includes but is not limited to mechanical and simple computers (eg. Raspberry Pi, Arduino) Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator in particular) and/or CAD (SketchUp or Vectorworks) in order to create floor plans and check exhibit graphics. Ability to travel domestically and internationally, work weekends and a varied schedule primarily during the three change out seasons, conference travel, but may occur during other times as well. Valid Driver s License and US Passport required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. IDEAL CANDIDATE'S ABILITIES Ability to perform people resource management duties including following hiring protocols, communicating organizational policies, managing staffing schedules, and providing training and coaching ongoing and in real time. Ability to efficiently and effectively handle the logistics operations responsibilities, specifically shipping and receiving. Ability to prioritize work by making strategic choices about how to allocate time and resources while understanding task importance vs. urgency. Ability to effectively manage and track multiple projects simultaneously, create and update documented processes, work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to collaborate and form productive relationships internally and externally. Ability to perform using Microsoft Office programs and Salesforce or related programs.
