The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for an Airport Security Supervisor to join our team! This position performs supervisory level law enforcement work to maintain the safety and security of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport including the airport's terminals, customers, staff, and property.
This position requires a current South Dakota law enforcement certification. Applicants should include a copy of their certification with their application.
The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 3:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

- Supervise and provide work direction for Airport Deputy Sheriff Security Officers. Develop and manage shift schedule. Complete employee performance evaluations, provide feedback to staff, and complete and submit employee timesheets. Assist in disciplinary proceedings. Assist in interviewing and hiring new employees. Keep supervisors and essential personnel advised of security incidents.
- Ensure compliance with laws, policy, guidelines, and procedures. Inspect employee uniforms and equipment. Ensure officers complete accurate written reports. Identify and arrange necessary training opportunities.
- Coordinate security compliance activities including access point alarm checks, alarm response, proper display of airport identification information, and random identification checks.
- Collaborate with the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, law enforcement agencies, and airport tenants and stakeholders to ensure a secure environment.
- Provide certified law enforcement protection and security for the general public by maintaining an observable and accessible presence at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
- Provide law enforcement support to the airlines, vendors, tenants, passengers, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) passenger screening operations. Perform armed foot patrol inside the airport.
- Identify illegal or suspicious activities. Identify individuals loitering or observing screening checkpoint security procedures. Exercise appropriate use of force to neutralize disorderly and/or intoxicated subjects causing disturbances. Respond to incidents and emergency situations. Mediate disputes. Initiate arrests as necessary. Conduct investigations. Interview victims and witnesses. Gather evidence.
- Question and, when necessary, apprehend passengers possessing weapons or improvised explosive devices at the Screening Checkpoint.
- Verify identification of all armed law enforcement officers and Federal Flight Deck Officers who are flying in the performance of their duties.
- Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for information and/or assistance from the public.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and reports concerning crimes, incidents, information, etc. Provide testimony when required.
