- This position works 32-40 hours per week, part- time. Varied working hours including 8:00am-8:00pm, Monday-Friday. Programs and facilities operate routinely daily from 10:30am-8:30pm.

- Know and understand each skill level and the skills that are taught.
- Practice and teach basic water safety.
- Teach daily instruction to participants ranging in age from youth to adults and with different ability levels.
- Work effectively with other lifeguards/sailing instructors and take turns with various responsibilities.
- Learn and implement the proper procedures to open and close the aquatic facility.
- Communicate issues, concerns, incidents, and or safety risks to leadership in a timely manner.
- Attend all required in-service trainings held from May through August.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/ First Aid/ CPR/ AED Certification.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
- Good cross cultural communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse population.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both one on one and group settings.
- Commitment to the growth and development of participants.
- Commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.
- Patient, caring, and creative.
- Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.

- Must maintain physical skills as required by Lifeguard Certification.
- Ability to frequently walk, run, stand, or stoop.
