The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) Aquatic Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating participants in the Lake Harriet Sailing School or Swim Lesson programs ranging in age from infants to adults, while providing excellent customer service.
  • This position works 32-40 hours per week, part- time.  Varied working hours including 8:00am-8:00pm, Monday-Friday. Programs and facilities operate routinely daily from 10:30am-8:30pm.
  •  Must be able to meet work schedule and in-service training attendance standards (May through August).

  • Know and understand each skill level and the skills that are taught.
  • Practice and teach basic water safety.
  • Teach daily instruction to participants ranging in age from youth to adults and with different ability levels.
  • Work effectively with other lifeguards/sailing instructors and take turns with various responsibilities.
  • Learn and implement the proper procedures to open and close the aquatic facility.
  • Communicate issues, concerns, incidents, and or safety risks to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Attend all required in-service trainings held from May through August.
  • Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
Nice to Have: 
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/ First Aid/ CPR/ AED Certification.

  • Must maintain physical skills as required by Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ability to frequently walk, run, stand, or stoop.
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Speech, hearing, literacy, and vision.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme weather conditions.
