Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing management and oversight of daily Nursing activities to a Nursing Department. The manager will work in partnership with Nursing leadership and other department management and employees to ensure high quality patient care, attainment of financial goals, and staff development.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. 
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations, standards of care, and attainment of organizational goals. 
  • Facilitates collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines. 
  • Advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. 
  • Promotes shared decision-making and professional autonomy by providing department input into executive-level decisions, and by keeping staff informed of executive level activities. 
  • Implements and role models the vision and mission of Minidoka Memorial Hospital
  • Responsible for development, implementation and management of annual capital/operating and personnel (FTE) budget for department.
  • Manage time and attendance of departmental staff. Review staff entries and verifying hours worked according to policy. Send verified time and attendance records to payroll department. 
  • Uses resources effectively and manages expenses to meet financial goals of department.
  • Models and fosters an environment of professionalism and employee engagement on the department. 
  • Responsible for recruitment, retention, and employee satisfaction. 
  • Ensures competent and sufficient number of staff to meet patient care needs, which includes hiring, orientation, and managing staffing to a changing census. 
  • Ensure that new skill training and ongoing competency verification is completed annually. 
  • Evaluate staff competency through use of performance reviews and peer reviews. 
  • Mentors staff and provide professional educational opportunities. Utilizes participative practice management models.
  • Responsible for department performance and compliance with patient safety initiatives, federal, state and other regulatory bodies such as DNV, OSHA, CMS, DOPL, and other department specific accrediting and certifying bodies.
  • Develop, review, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols that are evidence-based practice. Facilitate the approval through the established process for policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Participate in MMH Leadership Team meeting, Quality and Compliance Committee, Centriq Steering and Synergi Committee, Policy Committee, Opioid committee, Antibiotic Stewardship, Infection Control committee and all other committees as assigned.
  • Participate in EOC (Environment of Care) rounds providing evaluation and recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage the Idaho TSE programs for MMH, and participate in regional and state TSE committees.
  • Manage the Tele-Health programs for the Emergency Department. Review and expand the Tele-Health program as appropriate for department needs.
  • Develop and manage sexual assault exam response program within the department. Complete sexual assault evidence kit tracking per ISP requirements.
  • Ensures achievement of clinical program goals and implements action plans to improve performance as needed. 
  • Effectively uses professional and organizational best practices to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. 
  • Participating member of a professional nursing organization appropriate to position and service line. 
  • Facilitates and encourages staff nurse participation in professional organizations. 
  • Monitors and improves patient satisfaction utilizing available service metrics and national benchmarks to develop and implement action plans to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Acts as a role model for staff. Ensures that staff incorporates evidence based practice into all aspects of care delivery.
  • Partner with physicians to achieve clinical, operational, and service goals.
  • Communicates to staff and encourages participation in opportunities for community outreach activities (ex: health fairs; middle and high school education). 
  • Manage, coordinate, and support student nurse activities. 
  • Supports staff participation in outside community organizations such as volunteer health clinics, health fairs and advisory boards for not for profit organizations. 
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Associates Degree in Nursing OR 5 years’ experience in a Charge or Lead role as an RN  
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Idaho. 
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification or Basic EKG or Arrhythmia-identification certification.


Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)

  • Read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Physical Requirements

Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds
