RECEPTIONIST

HOURS: Full-time
STARTING WAGE: $17.00/hour
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish;
- Must be able to write professional emails and internal messages;
- Must be comfortable using office equipment, such as copier/scanner/printer, shredder, postage machine, desktop computer, cash register;
- Must be able to listen to customer requests and concerns and problem solve to complete tasks or find answers;
- Must be willing to learn new software, as we are in the communication business and new tools are being launched several times throughout the year to increase efficiency;
- Must be organized and able to process, file, and archive paperwork;
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sun-Gazette is the most trusted news source in Tulare County, and we are trusting you to represent that reputation with our customers. This position will work in our Exeter office, one of seven offices in our newspaper network spanning seven cities in Tulare and Fresno Counties. In a typical day, you will answer in-person requests, phone calls, and emails to:
- Process new subscriptions and renewals for subscriptions;
- Answer questions regarding pricing for subscriptions, advertising, and other services;
- Submit service requests to the appropriate person;
- Forward email and transcribe phone messages for reporters, editors, and management;
- Process cash, check, and credit card payments;
- Update schedules for advertising, tracking credit card payments, and small projects;
- Light cleaning and other duties as assigned.
EXPECTATIONS
This is an entry-level position, but a professional position, nonetheless. This position is the first impression customers have of our company, so we expect this employee to be dressed appropriately for an office setting, be courteous and patient with customers either on the phone, through email or in person. This person should be highly organized and able to process, file, and track bills, invoices, payments, and projects. The position requires some multitasking as this person will be expected to answer phones, emails, and assist customers in person. This person should have at least a basic interest in newspapers as we would like to grow this position beyond its current scope but only for those looking for long-term employment in our industry.
EXPERIENCE
No job experience is required but there are some basic software programs that are required. Required software experience is as follows:
· Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
· Experience with Google Docs, Sheets and Chrome web browser and searches;
· Experience with different files types including PDFs, JPGs and DOCX.
We prefer bilingual candidates for this position to help our Spanish speaking customers over the phone and in the office.
ABOUT US
The Sun-Gazette and Mid Valley Times are independently owned weekly newspapers with a daily online presence in California’s San Joaquin Valley, but specifically in Tulare and Fresno Counties. The newspaper covers all pertinent topics, focusing mostly on the various governmental entities in both counties. We publish The Sun-Gazette every Wednesday in print and the Mid Valley Times every Thursday in print, with both publishing online Monday through Friday. The Mineral King Publishing team is currently made up of a publisher, executive editor, four general assignment reporters, two sports reporters, office manager, bookkeeper, receptionist, two advertising representatives, a five-person pressroom, and a five-person mailroom.
