Job Summary
Maintenance Team Members perform a variety of building and grounds maintenance tasks, including daily cleaning, repairs, painting, ceiling tile replacement, landscaping, and related duties.
Essential Duties
- Complete work orders as assigned by County Commission Office staff.
- Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and ensuring electrical appliances are safely used.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks.
- Mow and trim lawns, trees, and shrubbery using mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other equipment; clear debris from grounds.
- Perform interior painting, including surface preparation, protection, and finishing.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas using snowplows, snow blowers, and shovels, and apply snow-melt materials as needed.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and other equipment for events such as meetings and festivals.
- Apply insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestations.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems (e.g., filters, tubing, plugs).
- Conduct minor electrical repairs within individual capability.
- Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water using commercial cleaning equipment.
- Perform general exterior cleaning, minor repairs, and painting.
- Complete basic carpentry projects.
- Assist with equipment, machine, copier, and simple computer setup (e.g., swapping monitors, connecting peripheral devices). IT-specific work will be handled by the IT contractor.
- Conduct routine maintenance and checks of smoke alarms.
- Conduct routine maintenance and checks of duress alarms throughout facilities.
- Drive County vehicles as required to complete assigned tasks, attend meetings, and participate in training.
- Notify the County Administrator of the need for major repairs or upgrades to building systems.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the County Administrator or County Commission.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
- Ability to use basic hand tools.
- Preferred: basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information observed or overheard while working in various offices.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to climb ladders and bend or crawl into various spaces.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more at a time.
- Works a traditional schedule aligned with County Commission staff or general courthouse hours.
- Overtime or compensatory time may be approved when required to work more than 40 hours per week; prior authorization from the County Administrator or County Commission is mandatory for any work exceeding 40 hours.
